Astronics CSC is seeking an entry-level Quality Inspector to support the Quality Organization in Illinois. The role focuses on ensuring compliance to customer and industry standards, inspecting parts and processes, and escalating inconsistencies on the production line.

You will verify documentation, perform in-process checks, and report results in ERP while adhering to safety and quality policies. This entry-level position offers growth within a standards-driven manufacturing environment.

Summary

This position is and entry level position for the Quality Organization at Astronics CSC. The employee is responsible for ensuring compliance to the inspection criteria defined by the company and its customers as well as industry standards.

This position helps to drive compliance to the Quality Management System in Astronics and adherence to the Engineering Requirements of the parts and products across the supply chain. The tasks and responsibilities are performed at specific stations and steps across the location(s) per the demonstrated skillset.

The position is responsible to inspect product and process features to requirements defined by the customer, blueprint(s) or work instruction(s) to the production staff on the line, as well as act as an escalation point for discrepancies that occur throughout the work day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible of the inspection processes in the manufacturing site on the designated area(s). Includes, but not limited to:
  • Inspection and Verification of all associated documentation tied up to the received parts, includes but is not limited to: Prints and drawings, test reports, dimensions, cosmetic characteristics, etc.
  • In-Process Inspection to ensure production is completing processes correctly as defined in the production work instructions and as defined in the blueprint.
  • Verify electrical test set up and/or final test results to ensure testing is being done correctly for each job.
  • Fulfill and deliver inspection reports as required.
  • Other designated inspection activities that need to be fulfilled to comply with the established requirements.
  • Utilize basic inspection, measurement, and test equipment (caliper, micrometer, comparator, ruler, meters) to inspect product characteristics per the defined specifications.
  • Report and complete inspection processes in the ERP system.
  • Report the work time in the designated systems (paper/ERP)
  • Follow communication and escalation process on quality, manufacturing, supplier, and other issues or concerns that come up during the shift.
  • Issue Discrepant Material Report (DMR) orders and follow up disposition with the Quality Engineer.
  • Responsible to follow and ensure compliance to the Quality Management System requirements as well as Customer Specific Requirements on the products that fall within their area of responsibility.
  • Responsible to follow and ensure compliance with all the safety protocols and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for implementing and complying with all ethical and legal compliance requirements.
  • Recommend opportunities for improvement with aim of facilitating and promoting better practices while ensuring the highest level of Quality.
  • Other duties & functions may be assigned to this position as needed by the supervisor or lead.

Required:
  • Minimum 1-2 year in a manufacturing environment.
  • Read and understand process documents and industry standards.

Preferred:
  • Able to read blueprints and drawings (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and cable & wire drawings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of C of C’s, Material Certifications.
  • Experience using basic inspection and test equipment (ruler, caliper, and meter).
  • Working knowledge of ISO/9001/14000/13485 and AS9100 processes.
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing facility or continuous improvement environment.

The salary range specified is applicable to positions within the State of Illinois and reflects various factors considered in compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to, individual skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and the specific needs of our business and organization. At Astronics CSC, it is uncommon for new hires to receive an offer at or near the top end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are made based on the unique facts and circumstances of each candidate. The current hourly wage rangefor this position is $19.00 to $20.00 hr.. In addition, you will be eligible for our Quarterly Incentive compensation bonus. Astronics offers a competitive salary, along with opportunities for career growth.
