Job summary

Socket.dev in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Quality Inspector to verify machined components meet engineering drawings and specifications before integration into our ocean-energy hardware.

You will use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, profilometers, thread gauges and CMMs to verify dimensions, document results clearly, identify nonconformities, and help keep defects from moving downstream while collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in mechanical inspection or quality control in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, including an intermediate understanding of ASME Y14.5 and GD&T.
• Proficiency with precision inspection tools and mechanical measurement techniques.
• Working knowledge of helicoils, Keenserts, AS5202 port threads, and surface finish requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to create clear, accurate inspection documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with manufacturing and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Inspect machined components for compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and acceptance requirements.
• Use calipers, micrometers, profilometers, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measurement tools to verify component dimensions and features.
• Perform visual inspections to identify burrs, damage, scratches, foreign object debris (FOD), and other workmanship issues.
• Document inspection results clearly and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Identify nonconforming parts and write nonconformance reports that clearly describe the issue and supporting inspection data.
• Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to communicate inspection findings and resolve questions about part conformity.

As a Quality Inspector, you will inspect machined components to make sure they meet engineering drawings and specifications before they become part of our hardware. You will use precision measurement tools, document results clearly, identify nonconformities, and help keep defects from moving downstream.

• Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and/or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
