Job summary

Wabash in Gary, IN is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform thorough inspections of every trailer against inspection criteria and the sales order, recording defects on the iPad and Traveler. The inspector communicates repeat defects upstream, escalating to Supervisor and QA as needed, and uses control plans to ensure quality products meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities include ensuring paperwork is retained, serial numbers entered into the system, and compliance to DOT and FMVSS

Qualifications

• Basic reading, writing and verbal skills.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• History of good attendance.
• Prior inspection experience is a plus.
• Ability to interpret sales orders and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure follow-through on all inspections and workmanship standards, critical to quality, schedules, and reports.
• Provide accurate data of inspection.
• Ensure product meets standards by understanding and enforcing QA, Wabash, and customer rules.
• Identify damages, discrepancies, missing parts by inspecting trailers as required.
• Inspectors must be qualified through a training course.
• Responsible for the trailer condition as it leaves.
• Inspect compliance to DOT and FMVSS requirements and complete federally required inspection documents.
• Capable of self-management.
• Exhibit effective communication skills.
• Report to area supervisor, with dotted line to QA training team.
• Attend inspector roundtables and ongoing training sessions.

Quality Inspector

About the Role:

The Quality Inspector performs a thorough inspection of every trailer by comparing trailer to inspection criteria and sales order and recording defects onto iPad and Traveler. The inspector communicated repeat defects effectively upstream, including escalation of events to Supervisor and QA when needed. Utilize control plans to aid in manufacturing of quality products to meet customer requirements. The inspector finished the inspection by ensuring all required paperwork is retained and serial numbers entered into System.

Your Profile:

• Basic reading /writing/ & verbal skills.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• History of good attendance
• Prior inspection experience is a plus.

Your Responsibilities:

Physical Demands:

As a quality inspector, you are regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate tools or controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs full range of motion in their arms and hands in this position. All quality inspectors must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination.
