Job summary

Howmet Aerospace Inc. in Columbia, CT is seeking an Inspector to perform comprehensive quality inspections on aerospace and industrial components to ensure conformance to drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

The role requires hands-on use of precision tools, adherence to ITAR, and collaboration with QA and Production to document results and drive corrective actions. Previous aerospace inspection experience and familiarity with AS9100/ISO9001 are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years inspection in manufacturing, aerospace experience preferred.
  • Proficient with hand measuring instruments.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and apply GD&T.
  • Experience with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Capable of producing First Article, in-process, and final inspections using AS9102 FAIR.
  • Generate nonconformance reports and maintain records.
  • Support internal and external audits and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate certificates of conformance.

  • Communicate inspection results to QA and Production.
  • Maintain safe working environment and comply with procedures.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

The successful candidate will perform all the required inspections on product to assure compliance to Howmet’s Quality System, Specifications and Customer requirements for Industrial and Military/Aerospace products.
Key Responsibilities

  • Following general inspection guidelines to conduct critical non-routine visual, dimensional, mechanical, and functional inspections on a wide variety of components, assemblies and materials.
  • Inspecting in-process production by confirming product meets applicable drawings and specifications.
  • Inspecting finished products by confirming product meets drawings and specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; documenting and communicating required corrections and ensuring defective product is not delivered to the customer.
  • Conducting visual and measurement tests.
  • Maintaining inspection records and documentation in accordance with government, customer, and company standards.
  • Inspecting incoming materials by confirming product meets drawings and specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; documenting and communicating rejections of unacceptable items.
  • Documenting and communicating required corrections.
  • Assisting Quality Assurance during internal audits and customer audits as needed.
  • Ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures and safety regulations.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years inspection in a manufacturing environment, aerospace experience is a plus.
  • Proficient using hand measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gages, optical comparator etc.)
  • Proficient in applying the principles of GD&T for blueprint / model interpretation and acceptance activities.
  • Ability to read engineering and manufacturing drawings
  • Responsible for conducting First Article, In-Process, Final inspections and accurate report generating utilizing AS9102 FAIR format.
  • Experience with Quality Management System principles ISO 9001: 2008, AS 9100D etc.
  • Generate and maintain nonconformance reports and records.
  • Participate in Corrective Action processes, including containment plans, root cause analysis, corrective countermeasures, and providing objective evidence for verification / closure.
  • Accurately document the results of inspections and issue Certificates of Conformance.
  • Maintain and archive controlled document files and records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in internal and external audit activities as needed.
  • Provide feedback on the quality aspects of parts and assemblies to QA and Production.
  • Ability to interact with Production for communicating inspection results
  • Ability to work well with others and maintain a professional environment.
  • Review contracts, purchase orders, drawings, travelers, shop instructions and other planning for quality requirements.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
