Job summary

Deringer-Ney Inc. in Bloomfield, CT is seeking a Quality Inspector to conduct routine inspection of materials and machined components to verify conformance to specifications.

You will read blueprints and GD&T, use standard inspection equipment, and support first article, in-process, and final inspections per quality plans. Proven ability with micrometers, calipers, gages, and CMMs is expected; associates degree preferred with 2–3 years of inspection experience.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred; GED or high school diploma required.
  • 2–3 years of inspection experience in metal stamping, injection molding, or related industry.
  • Certified Mechanical Inspector (desired).
  • Actively continuing training through courses and seminars as required (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Assists Quality Engineers, Quality Manager or Department Managers in conducting first piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Uses blueprints, Quality Plans, sampling and inspection procedures for automotive and nonautomotive products.

  • Participates in continuous improvement activities within the inspection area.

Title: Quality Inspector

Quality Inspector

Job Summary

Conducts routine inspection of materials and machined components as required and determines conformance to specification.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Follows company policies and procedures with regard to the Quality System as they apply.
  • Assists the Quality Engineers, Quality Manager or Department Managers in conducting timely first piece, in-process, and final inspections to determine conformance to specifications, Quality Plans or other customer requirements as directed.
  • Uses blueprints, Quality Plans, sampling, and inspection procedures for both automotive and nonautomotive products as required. Participates in special product and process studies as directed by the Department Manager, Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, and Group Leader.
  • Utilizes standard industry inspection equipment to conduct product and process inspections as required. Typical equipment would include Micrometers, Comparators, Calipers and other various handheld gages.
  • Must accurately prepare various inspection reports as required to document inspection results and identify all non-conformances. Results must be reported on a timely basis.
  • Prepares internal non-conformance reports and segregates all identified nonconforming products in accordance with company procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Carries out other general responsibilities as required by Department Manager, Quality Manager, site management and group leader.
  • Participates in customer visits and audits as required. May also participate in product design reviews and resolution of customer complaints as required.
  • May assist in product and process studies as required.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities within the inspection area or other areas of the plant.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Capable of using standard inspection equipment contained within the department. In addition, use of automated inspection devices, CMM's, Vision Systems and special gages including customer supplied gages. Ability to program CMM's, Vision Systems and other automated inspection devices desired.
  • Understands the basics of blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and can provide assistance to others inside and outside the department in understanding proper inspection technique.
  • Understands the basics of statistical process control and can monitor processes that utilize this technique.
  • Conducts full first article inspections on complex multi-print components and subassemblies.
Education and Experience
  • Associates degree preferred, minimum GED or High school Diploma .
  • 2-3 years inspection experience or the equivalent experience as an inspector in a metal stamping, injection molding or related industry preferred.
  • Certified Mechanical Inspector (desired).
  • Actively continuing training through, courses and seminars as required (desired).
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
