Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs invites motivated students for a Quality Engineering Intern position at our New Carlisle plant. You will support the Metallurgical Department with safety inspections, lab workflows, and data-driven investigations to improve steelmaking processes.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a BS program in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemistry, with at least sophomore standing by summer 2027, and a clear interest in industry innovation and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BS program in a technical field (Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry or related).
• Completion of at least sophomore year by summer 2027.
• Interest in steel industry, innovation and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly safety inspections and safety observations in the Metallurgical Department.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab and calibrations.
• Conduct data-mining investigations on metallurgical grade performance and related metrics.
• Support Metallurgical grade maintenance and development and oversee 3rd-party testing inspections.
• Track steelmaking scrap, referrals and diversions and assist in optimization efforts.
