Job summary

East Penn Manufacturing Company, Inc. seeks a Quality Engineering Intern to support lithium-Ion battery pack production with calibration, data analysis, and defect reporting. You will work on inspections, data management, document control, and records, under mentorship from a Quality Team member.

Legal status to work on site in Ann Arbor, MI is required. Candidate will be assigned a project and gain hands-on experience while supporting 8D problem solving, QMS activities, and process improvements

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Willingness to learn the use of inspection equipment (3D scanner, optical comparator, etc.).
  • MS Office suite skills for data management and analysis (MS Excel).
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift 40 pound loads several times per day.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing, testing, and data collection.
  • Assist 8D problem solving efforts and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in inspections and document results (incoming, in-process, outgoing).
  • Support calibration activities.
  • Contribute to QMS implementation, maintenance, and improvement.
  • Assist with non-conforming material and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering on approved process changes.
  • Help with process optimization studies and data analysis.
  • Draft and maintain work instructions, inspection forms, and process maps.
  • Ensure daily 5S in the work area and keep areas clean and organized.
  • Assist in management and analysis of production data (test data, Pareto, yield data).
  • Follow all safety policies and company conduct; maintain on-site presence.
  • Take on other duties as assigned by management.

Overview

The Quality Engineering Intern supports lithium-Ion battery pack production by performing technical and Engineering support tasks in the areas of calibration, data analysis, data management, defect reporting, inspections, document control, control of records, and other duties as assigned. The Quality Engineering Intern will be assigned a project and be mentored by a Quality Team member. ***Candidate must be lawful permanent resident or US Citizen and be able to work on site in Ann Arbor, MI

Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing, testing, and data collection
  • Support 8D problem solving efforts
  • Support incoming, in process, and outgoing inspections and documenting results
  • Support calibration
  • Support QMS – management, implementation, and improvement
  • Support non-conforming material, quality improvement, and corrective/preventative action activities
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to implement approved process changes
  • Assist in process optimization studies
  • Write and help maintain work instructions, inspections forms, and process maps
  • Ensure daily 5S of work area (maintain clean and organized work areas)
  • Assist in management and analysis of production data (test data, Pareto, yield data, etc.)
  • Follow all company policies regarding safety and conduct
  • Physical presence on the job is essential and necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Working toward engineering-related degree, preferably Bachelors or Masters

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
