Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a co-op student in engineering who will apply classroom knowledge to hands-on manufacturing environment tasks.

The role emphasizes quality evaluation, process improvements, and collaboration with customers and vendors within PCC’s operations. Students will gain progressive responsibility in quality engineering, attend training sessions, and engage in new product development projects.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Materials, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with a 3.0+ GPA.
  • Full-time student status and strong writing/communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Access and related engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Apply school principles to hands-on situations, including quality evaluations and control.
  • Achieve performance goals with progressive responsibility in quality engineering.
  • Interact with PCC customers and vendors to help improve processes.
  • Identify and suggest process improvements for projects.
  • Attend regular departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Review systems analysis, testing, and documentation for existing processes.
  • Own identified projects and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Develop requirements and specifications with the project team.
  • Work within specifications to meet project goals on time and accurately.
  • Collaborate on new product development, product line extensions, and enhancements.

Job description

The co-op student will be working on job assignments related to their functional engineering discipline. These increasingly challenging assignments will provide foremost an effective learning assignment and then a sound intellectual and/or financial return for the PCC organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The student will apply principles learned in school to hands‑on situations, such quality evaluations and control.
  • The student will be responsible for accomplishing performance goals and will receive progressive responsibility in quality engineering throughout his/her co‑op experience.
  • The student will have contact with PCC customers and vendors while helping to improve processes.
  • Will identify and recommend process improvements for specified projects.
  • Student will attend regular departmental meeting.
  • Student will attend training sessions, symposiums and other appropriate educational opportunities.
  • Will perform or review systems analysis, testing, and documentation for existing processes.
  • Will take ownership and responsibility for identified projects.
  • Participate on project teams for assigned projects; analyze improvements and new product or applications and develop requirements and specifications with team.
  • Work within specifications provided to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate with peers, project team members, and other departments on new product development, product line extensions, and product enhancements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of related engineering discipline functional and technical skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Good writing skills and interpersonal skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Full‑time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Materials, Mechanical or AeronauticalEngineering.

Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Student will spend 50%-60% of time in the manufacturing plant and minimal travel may be required.

OTHER BENEFITS
  • Co‑ops will be paid $25 hour /40-hours a week
  • Given top priority for future co‑op rotations and full‑time positions.
