Job summary

Shawmut Corporation is seeking a Quality Engineer to establish and maintain strong customer relationships and ensure satisfaction in a global manufacturing context. The role emphasizes APQP leadership, ISO 9001 compliance, supplier coordination, and cross-functional problem solving across automotive, health, and textile segments.

The ideal candidate will have a 4-year degree or ASQ CQE certification, 3+ years in manufacturing quality, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 4-year degree or ASQ CQE certification, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years in manufacturing with 1 year in quality engineering; medical device exp is a plus.
  • Experience in supplier and customer-related quality engineering.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral, across all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with customers on quality issues for assigned responsibilities.
  • Interface with suppliers on quality issues for assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain control plans, PFMEAs, inspection and gage instructions, and other QA docs.
  • Lead problem-solving for internal/external quality concerns.
  • Coordinate activities of Quality Technicians and APQP docs for programs.
  • Establish data collection systems for process, product, and customer feedback.
  • Coordinate supplier quality activities for parts supplied to product units.
  • Initiate actions to prevent nonconformances in product, process, or QA systems.
  • Train/mentor Quality Technicians as needed.
  • Identify and record problems relating to product, process, or QA systems.

Description

Establish and maintain strong customer relations and ensure customer satisfaction. Have a thorough understanding of customer expectations and coordinate the internal effort to meet those expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for customer interfacing on quality issues for assigned responsibilities.
  • Responsible for supplier interfacing on quality issues for assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain control plans, PFMEA’s, inspection and gage instructions and other assigned quality plan documentation.
  • Lead problem solving activities for internal/external concerns relating to assigned responsibilities.
  • Coordinates activities of Quality Technicians as needed. Maintain Advanced Quality Planning (APQP) documentation for assigned programs.
  • Establish data collection systems for process, product and customer feedback.
  • Supplier quality coordination of parts supplied to assigned product units.
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformance relating to product, process and quality systems.
  • Train / mentor Quality Technicians as needed.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, or quality systems.
  • Control further processing and delivery of nonconforming product until the deficiency is corrected.
  • Organize retrieval of supplier PPAP information.
  • Organize follow up activities to customer PPAP submissions.
  • Report weekly to management regarding timelines.
  • During slow periods, perform internal and/or external audits on the basis of ISO 9001:2015/IATF 16949 requirements to maintain compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum for (4) year degree or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer Certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, including at least 1 year of quality engineering experience; medical device manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in supplier and customer-related quality engineering role required.
  • Experience in APQP on new products in automotive industry a plus.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, to interface with customers, suppliers, and all levels of personnel in one organization.
  • Capable of working in an international environment.
  • Maintain professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary to provide guidance and serve as an internal expert on quality systems, philosophy, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems strongly preferred.
  • High level of computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word/Excel.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage several tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Thorough understanding of ISO 9001 and auditing process.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and auditing process a plus.
  • Internal Process Auditor experience a bonus but not required. Certified Auditor or willingness to become a Certified Auditor a plus.
  • Must be available for approximately 10-20% travel including international if necessary.
