Job summary

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to lead continuous improvement across safety, quality, and manufacturing processes.

You will drive DMAIC projects, mentor inspectors, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and maintain ISO/IATF certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience.
  • Six-sigma CQE certification.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T drawings and specs.
  • Experience with statistical methods and process improvement.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving using computer applications.
  • Customer quality audit experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality control testing improvements and defect prevention.
  • Resolve complex quality issues with cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor Quality Inspectors and Analysts in process improvement.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, GPSC, Contracts, Sales and Manufacturing.
  • Provide SME support for all product platforms.
  • Lead lean or six-sigma projects.
  • Apply DMAIC to eliminate waste.
  • Conduct process capability studies.
  • Develop and maintain control plans.
  • Benchmark industry practices for validation.
  • Lead corrective and preventive actions.
  • Set purchase specs, PPAP, and lead quality audits.
  • Maintain ISO/IATF certifications.

The Senior Quality Engineer will lead continuous improvement around safety, quality, business, and manufacturing processes with emphasis on eliminating process waste. The role will use structured quality improvement tools to drive and eliminate process waste. The Senior Quality Engineer will design complex new processes and re-engineer existing processes to product outcomes that meet safety, quality and business expectations.


Your Impact

  • Lead continuous improvement of quality control testing, detection and defect prevention.

  • Lead resolution of complex quality issues using problem solving methodology and engaging cross functional teams.

  • Mentor and train Quality Inspectors and Quality Analysts in process improvement activities.

  • Communicate effectively and work inter-functionally with Employee Teams, Quality, Engineering, Global Procurement & Supply Chain (GPSC), Contracts, Sales and Manufacturing to resolve complex quality related issues, deficiencies and improve processes.

  • Subject matter expert in all product platforms in order to be versatile support.

  • Facilitate quality led forums with various teams providing business impact, risk assessment and data-based guidance, identifying where there are largest opportunities, such as to increase first pass yield, reduce defects per unit, and achieve strategic deployment business targets.

  • Lead the identification and implementation of lean manufacturing or six-sigma projects.

  • Lead teams in applying the six sigma DMAIC methodology to eliminate waste.

  • Perform process capability studies internally and externally.

  • Design and improve process inputs to gain desired outcome.

  • Improve processes to reduce common cause variability and eliminate special cause.

  • Establish control plans to prevent process backsliding for consolidation of gains.

  • Analyze process constraints and develop standards to overcome constraints.

  • Investigate/analyze and benchmark industry practices for process validation assessments.

  • Implement effective corrective and preventative actions utilizing structured planning methods.

  • Partner to set purchase specifications, PPAP, and lead receiving inspections quality audits and define quality contractual requirements.

  • Contribute to maintenance of ISO/IATF certifications and compliance.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience.


Standout Qualifications


  • Six-sigma certification & CQE.

  • Must interpret technical drawings including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning, GD&T symbols, etc. Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics.

  • Advanced training/experience in the use of statistical techniques and process improvement methods.

  • Must have experience with and be able to exhibit the use of structured problem-solving techniques utilizing computer applications.

  • Customer quality audit experience.


Working Conditions


  • This role combines office-based administrative duties with physical activity in field or production environments.

  • In the office setting, tasks may require extended computer use, sitting, and attending meetings.

  • Field or floor work may involve walking across various terrains or shop floors, standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.

  • Must be able to shift focus between detailed cognitive work and occasional physical tasks as needed.

Pay Range

$73,200.00 - $117,800.00


The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
