Job description

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to bridge early-stage R&D and flight hardware delivery for high-voltage power processing units (PPUs) supporting electric propulsion systems. This role is ideal for someone who understands the discipline, rigor, and quality expectations of low-volume, high-reliability aerospace systems but is also flexible in their approach and wants to evolve those methods into a more agile, cost-conscious, and scalable manufacturing approach.

You will have an opportunity to build the systems and methods from the ground up for our new product lines and QMS. This will require owning the transition from lightly documented prototypes to repeatable, auditable flight builds, without slowing innovation.

You will work closely with design engineers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, and test engineers to develop processes and documentation that satisfy customer requirements, and International Standards such as ISO9001.

This is a hands-on, high-judgment role suited for an engineer who has experienced both R&D experimentation and flight discipline and knows when to apply each.

Key Responsibilities:
Product Quality & Inspection
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing/test engineers to ensure products and processes are optimized for inspectability.
  • Lead and own calibration and asset management efforts across the organization.
  • Function as the ESD coordinator.
  • Participate in design and development programs from start to finish, ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Balance traditional aerospace reliability requirements with practical, low cost, scalable solutions.
Quality Management System
  • Establish documentation and traceability systems aligned with aerospace standards.
  • Support engineering in defining and creating design documentation around tolerances, specifications, critical characteristics, datums, test strategy, inspection strategy, etc.
  • Develop training protocols, lead training workshops and/or arrange for external training and certification for Quality Systems and Continuous Improvement.
  • Evaluate measurement system performance and conduct Gage R&R and other MSA activities.
  • Ensure there is a balance between documentation and definition vs speed-to-prototype/speed-to-manufacturing.
  • Perform first article, in-process, and end-of-line inspections as needed.
  • Support/Lead MRB activities.
  • Lead root cause analysis for build and test failures to identify underlying issues across design, process and build.
  • Drive corrective actions back into design, manufacturing processes, and documentation.
Certification
  • Drive ISO9001 and AS9100 certification efforts across the company.
  • Contribute, lead and collate procedures and documentation to bring the company to audit readiness.
  • Own internal auditing and support external audits.
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-620 certification (or equivalent).
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Interface closely with:
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Firmware and test engineers
  • Manufacturing and Test Engineers
  • Supply chain and quality (as those functions mature)
  • Ensure quality is designed into the hardware and our business practices
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5–10 years of experience supporting aerospace electronics hardware builds in a quality role.
  • Hands-on experience with power electronics assemblies and high-voltage hardware
  • Ability to read schematics, layouts, and mechanical drawings with GD&T fluently
  • Comfort operating in environments with incomplete information
  • Strong background in quality systems, inspection methods and root cause analysis
  • Experience supporting builds on the production floor
  • Strong risk analysis and prioritization skills
Strongly Preferred:
  • Experience supporting flight or space-rated hardware
  • GD&T knowledge and familiarity sufficient to conduct manual inspections.
  • Familiarity with sampling plans
  • Experience transition from prototype to low/mid volume production
  • Familiarity with ECSS / NASA / MIL requirements
  • Prior work in startups or small, fast-moving teams
  • Experience with software requirements traceability
  • AS9100 auditor training and/or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Lean/Six Sigma training
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Comfortable leading FMEA efforts.
  • Ability to balance aerospace rigor with speed, cost, and scalability
  • Comfortable pushing back on management, engineers, and technicians
  • Influencing teams without conflict
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to get to the root cause and implement robust corrective and preventive actions while balancing cost/effort.
  • Ability to balance schedules and recognize when delivery practical solutions take priority over rigor and perfection
U.S. Person Requirement:

This position involves access to flight hardware and technical data controlled under U.S. export control laws. Candidates must therefore qualify as a U.S. Person - a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or an individual granted asylum or refugee status. This requirement stems from federal export regulations, not from a preference regarding citizenship or national origin.
