Position Overview:

American Outdoor Brands Product Company was forged in innovation and the desire to produce quality products that support the everyday shooter, hunter, defender, and outdoorsman. The Quality Engineer II is a crucial role within Product Development, to ensure our products achieve and exceed the expectations and performance needs of our customers. Under general supervision of the Quality Engineering Supervisor, the Quality Engineer II establishes and maintains quality requirements and relevant inspection standards for all products, to ensure all design and performance requirements are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities under some supervision and with limited guidance:
  • Supports product development activities by creating test protocols for prototypes, new devices and in-line product offerings.
  • Supports and executes reliability testing using accelerated test HALT/HASS methods with minimal supervision.
  • Prepares, submits, and maintains test reports, data, and laboratory equipment.
  • Evaluate new consumer products for performance and reliability using applicable industry standards, such as ANSI, ASTM, ASME, etc.
  • Identify overall testing needs of consumer products in development and advise on equipment requirements.
  • Organize system and component level testing with suppliers or AOB engineers, as needed.
  • Conduct design validation and FMEA analysis with project engineers as part of the product development plan.
  • Work with engineers to write and execute test protocols that exercise product functionality and validate material specifications.
  • Develop and work with test fixtures required for testing products, setup tools including computers, IT infrastructure and test fixtures.
  • Create reports and analyze data that detail results of products with minimal supervision.
  • Create supplier control plan, functional inspection, and final QC inspection procedures.
  • Applies knowledge of Design and Process Controls to positively influence new product development efforts, including those for design inputs, specification development, verification, design and process validation, and risk management.
  • Develops quality plans for product & parts to include relevant control plans (internal & external suppliers), coordinating sample approval process, product packaging plans, QA inspection procedures & protocols, provide training to QC department personnel on QA inspection procedures, & developing any necessary inspection fixtures & gages necessary to perform QA inspections.
  • Develops, monitors, & reports on key measures (including cost of quality), objectives, & goals related to job responsibilities.
  • Lead the Production Process and Product Approval (PPA) process for all new products with minimal supervision to ensure products meet critical customer requirements, functions as intended, makes recommendations as to the supplier’s capability to product products reliably and repeatedly.
  • Manages part of the organization’s continuous improvement initiatives to include identification of opportunities for improvement as well as implementing corrective action(s) where necessary.
  • Takes initiative to develop & implement reliability test programs & protocols for incoming products & parts with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains appropriate compliance records including domestic as well as foreign regulations with respect to applicable safety requirements, shipping requirements, and other legal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Quality Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience: 3 years’ minimum experience, 5 years’ experience preferred
  • General mechanical aptitude
  • Inspection equipment, other measuring equipment such as salt spray, linear program logic, accelerometers, CMM and other metering devices.
  • Experience programming automated test scripts using Python, Arduino, Github or other IDE.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control techniques & associated costs and other related techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture & distribution of goods & services

Physical Demands:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Travel of approximately 5% of time; including U.S. and foreign travel requirements
  • Some work is required in "off-hours", for example, attending meetings at 5:00 AM or 8:00 PM occasionally to communicate with people in other time zones
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer
  • Ability to move about facility on regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, bending, standing, climbing or walking
  • Ability to move up to 20 pounds on regular basis, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Visual and hearing acuity

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:
