Job summary

Mitsubishi Power is seeking a Quality Engineer II to support manufacturing and repair operations, driving quality improvements and ensuring compliance with standards. The role emphasizes root-cause analysis, process data review, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, production, and QA teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5+ years in mechanical component manufacturing.
  • CQE certification required.
  • AWS/CWI and NDT certifications are desirable.
  • Experience with ISO and quality systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform root cause analysis and lead corrective and preventive action initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze production data, identify trends, reduce process variation, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
  • Support new product development activities including First Article Inspection (FAI) planning, scheduling, and team coordination.
  • Develop and maintain inspection procedures and perform inspections as required.
  • Ensure proper use, calibration, and suitability of tools, gauges, and measurement systems.
  • Support quality training programs for inspectors, operators, and production personnel.
  • Monitor and participate in NCR/CAR processes and provide timely KPI reporting.
  • Generate reports, procedures, specifications, and documentation supporting the Quality Management System and ISO compliance.
  • Conduct Gauge R&R studies, workstation audits, SPC reviews, and operator/process quality certifications.
  • Make inspection disposition decisions and provide technical recommendations.
  • Train new inspectors and operators and support continuous improvement activities.

Role Overview
  • Intermediate-level quality engineering role supporting manufacturing and repair operations to ensure products and processes meet quality requirements.
  • Provides technical support, monitors process and product quality, and drives continuous improvement initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to reduce variation, improve performance, and maintain compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support customer needs, production schedules, weekend/night activities, and travel up to 15% as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a mechanical component manufacturing environment.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification required.
  • AWS/CWI and NDT certifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong manufacturing and industrial experience, preferably within the gas turbine industry.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of SPC, Design of Experiments, Gauge R&R, measurement system analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action methodologies.
  • Experience with quality systems, ISO compliance, and process improvement techniques.
  • Knowledge of metallography, thermal barrier coatings, EDM, and weld/braze specimen evaluation is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, word processing applications, SPC software, CMM software, and related quality tools.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds with appropriate accommodations.
