Job summary

Lam Research in Tualatin, Oregon is seeking a Quality Engineer 3 to join the Global Operations Group. You’ll help ensure manufacturing processes and products meet quality standards by designing and maintaining QA practices within the QMS, inspecting processes and finished goods, and analyzing data to drive improvements.

You’ll collaborate with product and supply chain teams, conduct 8D and RCCA activities, and contribute to deployment of systematic solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering with relevant experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to work cross-functionally.
• Experience collaborating with technicians in a cleanroom environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze production data to identify trends and recommend quality improvements.
• Dispositions of supplier quality issues using defined criteria and RCCA prioritization.
• Perform preliminary analysis of quality escapes and apply 8D methodology for root cause and CAPA.
• Present RCCA findings to stakeholders and ensure corrective actions are deployed.
• Monitor investigations by Product Groups and Supply Chain to prevent recurrence.
• Support Global Quality and GOPS projects and perform audits.
• Conduct GEMBAs on the manufacturing floor and interview technicians for improvement opportunities.
• Review build instructions and assist manufacturability feedback to MFE on deposition products.
• Occasionally update build process instructions for inspections and quality checks.

The impact you’ll make

As a Quality Engineer at Lam, you will make an impact by ensuring manufacturing processes and products meet established quality standards. You will design, implement, and maintain quality assurance practices within the quality management system (QMS). You will design methods for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the accuracy of production processes and finished products. By analyzing production data and reports, you will identify trends and collaborate cross‑functionally to resolve technical, quality, and production challenges. Your expertise will help drive excellence in product design and manufacturing, supporting Lam’s commitment to delivering high‑quality, reliable products.

What you’ll do

• Perform analysis of production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality defect detection, reporting, and improvement programs.
• Support disposition of supplier quality issues in manufacturing by applying defined criteria and prioritizing issues for RCCA using a combination of recurrence, part value, and impact to operations.
• Conduct preliminary analysis of quality escapes to assign further investigation to the appropriate investigation function. Utilize 8D methodology to drive manufacturing‑owned escapes through root cause analysis and CAPA (Corrective Action, Preventive Action) planning and execution.
• Ensure systematic solutions are fully deployed and presents RCCA (root‑cause corrective action) findings to stakeholders.
• Monitor the quality of investigations and RCCA (Root Cause/Corrective Action) conducted by stakeholders (Product Groups and Supply Chain), ensuring a high probability that issues will not recur in Manufacturing.
• Support Global Quality and GOPS quality projects, as well as Management System Assessments (audits).
• Perform GEMBAs on the manufacturing cleanroom floor and interviews technicians to investigate quality escapes and identify improvement opportunities, gathering information on potential causes.
• Review build instructions, performs risk assessments, and provides feedback to MFE (Manufacturing Engineering) on manufacturability of deposition products. At times, update build process instructions for manufacturing inspections and quality checks.

Who we’re looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, with 5 years of relevant experience; or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree; or a PhD with no prior experience; or equivalent work experience.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with technicians building and testing products in a cleanroom environment.
