Job description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for the investigation of non-conforming products for both RTP Company internal and external instances. These investigations require the use of appropriate quality methodologies to determine the root cause of the issue and to determine appropriate corrective and preventive actions to be taken. Direct communication with internal and external personnel is required along with preparation of required documentation.

Description
  • Use quality tools (8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa Diagrams, Analytical Testing, etc.) to determine root causes, corrective and preventive actions.
  • Communicate directly with customer to understand their concerns, facilitate the gathering of information, and provide the outcome of the investigation.
  • Interface with required departments or individuals to implement meaningful preventative and corrective action plans.
  • Analyze and plot trends of quality issue types and root causes.
  • Use technical knowledge of RTP’s products to determine disposition of RTP’s internally rejected and aged materials.
  • Execute extrusion, molding and testing of compounds as needed for quality investigations or material approvals.
  • Assist in daily lab activities as assigned.
  • Participate on special project teams as assigned.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Overnight or overseas travel may be required on a limited basis.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time as well as look at a computer screen.
  • Occasional travel to other locations may be required.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field or sufficient combination of related education and work experience is required; Chemical, Mechanical or Composites Engineering degree preferred
  • Must be motivated, dependable and have excellent attendance.
  • Must be hands‑on: willing to work with blending equipment, extruders, and injection molding machines.
  • Ability and willingness to work under tight deadlines
  • Must have a positive attitude, be highly organized and demonstrate excellent communication skills
