Job Title: Quality Engineer

Job Description

The Quality Engineer plays a key role in supporting quality control processes and ensuring full compliance with automotive industry standards across the facility. This position leads facility-wide ISO compliance initiatives, drives continuous improvement in quality systems, and partners closely with production teams to maintain consistent, reliable product quality.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate facility-wide ISO 9001 compliance initiatives and maintain ongoing certification readiness.

  • Plan, execute, and document internal audits of processes, systems, and production areas to verify compliance with ISO and automotive industry standards.

  • Identify nonconformities and areas for improvement during audits, and work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Support and enhance quality control processes for chemical manufacturing, packaging, and labeling to ensure products meet established specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing floor employees to reinforce quality standards and promote a culture of quality throughout the facility.

  • Monitor and maintain quality documentation, procedures, and records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with ISO 9001 and automotive requirements.

  • Provide guidance and support related to IATF and other relevant automotive quality frameworks as needed.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, defect reduction, and customer satisfaction.

  • Spend regular time on the plant floor (approximately 70% of the role) observing processes, conducting audits, and partnering with operations to resolve quality issues.

  • Communicate audit findings, quality trends, and improvement recommendations to leadership and relevant stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.

Essential Skills
  • Proven experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience performing internal audits, including planning, execution, and reporting.

  • Strong understanding of quality control principles and practices within an industrial or production setting.

  • Ability to interpret and apply automotive industry quality standards and requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills for identifying root causes and recommending improvements.

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work closely with production and operations personnel on the plant floor.

  • Ability to balance time between office-based documentation and plant-floor auditing activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with IATF standards and their application in automotive-related manufacturing environments.

  • Chemical manufacturing or experience working with chemical products and processes.

  • Experience in a smaller, hands-on manufacturing setting with exposure to end-to-end production processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality initiatives and influence continuous improvement across teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a chemical manufacturing facility that produces windshield washer fluid, pool sanitizer, carpet cleaner, home car washing chemicals, and other chemical products, including private-label items for other companies. The facility manages the full production lifecycle in-house, including bottle blowing, labeling, chemical mixing, bottle filling, and packaging for shipping, with a high degree of automation to move products and packaging through the process. The company operates with a smaller, close-knit team of around 60 employees, fostering frequent interaction and collaboration between the Quality Engineer and manufacturing floor employees. The position reports into plant and quality leadership and does not sit within a large quality department, providing significant ownership and visibility. Approximately 30% of the time is spent at a cubicle handling documentation, analysis, and planning, while about 70% is spent on the plant floor conducting audits and working directly with operations. The environment reflects typical seasonal temperature changes, becoming warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. Standard hours are Monday through Friday during daytime business hours, while the manufacturing operation runs first and second shifts and may operate on weekends, requiring flexibility to support quality needs across production activities.
