Job summary

Bastion Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Quality Engineer to support the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA. You will lead S&MA activities, interpret quality requirements, and coordinate documentation across manufacturing, inspection, and test phases.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years of related experience, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, and are US citizens. On-site work with potential travel, background checks, and drug screening are required.

  • Ability to read complex blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret, organize, and coordinate S&MA engineering activities for major programs.
  • Prepare, evaluate, and assess quality documentation including procedures.
  • Review QA/QE documentation for NASA policy compliance (MMS, SS&MA).
  • Support documentation for manufacturing, inspection, and test phases.
  • Participate in Government milestone reviews for certification requirements.
  • Develop tools to identify quality requirements for MSFC programs.
  • Review drawings and procurement documentation.
  • Evaluate test results and disposition of anomalies.
  • Support MRB and corrective actions to improve quality.
  • Investigate root causes of problems and failures.
  • Provide support on Quality Plans, Surveillance Plans, First Article Inspections, NC resolutions.
  • Develop metrics as needed.

Job description

The Quality Engineer will support the space program located at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, Louisiana.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating assignments; plans and develop S&MA engineering and assurance activity that may have an important effect on major programs.
  • Prepare, evaluate and provide assessments of in-house and contracted quality related documentation including implementation of procedures.
  • Perform reviews and assessments of QA/QE documentation for compliance with NASA policy, Marshall Management System (MMS), Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) Directorate Organizational Instructions.
  • Support the preparation, evaluation, and assessment of documentation and processes for manufacturing, inspection, and test phases of programs and projects.
  • Participate in Government milestone reviews to evaluate certification requirements affecting design, safety, production, testing, and operation.
  • Develop and utilize tools to ensure that all applicable quality requirements are identified for MSFC programs and projects.
  • Perform drawing and procurement documentation review.
  • Evaluate test results including the disposition of test anomalies and discrepancies.
  • Support MRB, participate in corrective action activity to improve product quality.
  • Participate in problem and failure investigations to determine root causes.
  • Provide support on all quality areas to include Quality Plans, Surveillance Plans, Inspection Instructions, First Article Inspections, and NC resolutions.
  • Perform support to Quality Process assessments as required.
  • Develop Metrics as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering, or a related field.
  • Must have 7+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • In-Lieu of degree: Candidates with a high school diploma and 11+ years of recent and related work experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge in NASA Spacecraft S&MA requirements for manufacturing processes in support of the design and development of flight hardware.
  • Possess a working knowledge of AS9100 quality system requirements.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.

DESIRED:

  • Thermal Protection System, Thrust Vector Controls, or Acceptance Data Package experience and knowledge is highly desired.
  • Effective working within a team environment and as a stand-alone subject matter expert.
  • Experience working with aerospace flight hardware in a Manufacturing and Production Environment.

WORK LOCATION:

  • This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
  • Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • All of Bastion's employees must be team players with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
