Job summary

Leggett & Platt Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our Quality team and support our Work Furniture business.

You will help ensure products and services meet customer expectations and drive supplier quality improvements. The role involves monitoring PPAP, internal audits, and scrap rates; developing improvement plans with suppliers; and advancing our processes toward ISO 9000 compliance in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Five years minimum as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in managing and driving projects.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience in internal auditing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the quality performance of the supply base by monitoring and reporting PPM performance of key suppliers.
  • Communicate PPAP requirements to suppliers on engineering changes or new products, managing PPAP promise dates and approving supplier PPAPs.
  • Monitor scrap rates, identify excellent, moderate and problem suppliers, complete supplier assessments if necessary, develop an improvement plan with suppliers to improve performance, monitoring progress.
  • Assist in the development and approval of incoming inspection plans.
  • Perform internal audits of products and processes, identifying corrective actions and driving completion of the actions.
  • Identify potential VA/VE projects and work with a cross-functional team to completion.
  • Work to bring internal business processes to an ISO 9000-compliant level and maintain that compliant level through participation in internal auditing and internal documentation development.

So, what will you be doing as a Quality Engineer?
