Job summary

Actalent is seeking a quality engineer for powertrain manufacturing, focusing on FMA deliverables, RCA, launch quality, and continuous improvement. Based in Dearborn, MI with on-site work and travel to plants.

You will work with PTME and Global Quality teams to update standards, develop best practices, and advance QOS, PFMEA, FMEA, and control plans. Six Sigma certification encouraged.

Qualifications

• Experience with Quality Operating System (QOS), PFMEAs, Control Plans and FMA deliverables.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
• Familiarity with MIDAS, FEDE, Knowledge Packets and GPDS powertrain deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, reviewing, and maintaining PFMEAs and Control Plans to align with standards.
• Support root cause analysis and PCA/PRA with 3-Legged 5-Why, 8D, and A3 methodologies.
• Conduct launch quality and warranty deep-dive reviews to identify recurring failures and improvements.
• Collaborate to develop best practices and document QOS lessons learned.
• Update production quality tools, training materials, and data reporting across manufacturing.
• Travel to Powertrain plants as required, including overnight stays.

Description

Work directly with PTME and Global Quality teams to improve manufacturing system performance, update standard documents, enhance FMA process robustness, and lead continuous improvement training initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

FMA & Quality Deliverables: Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of Process FMA deliverablesincluding PFMEAs and Control Plansto ensure alignment with corporate standards.

Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Support root cause analysis and permanent corrective action (PCA/PRA) processes using structured problem-solving tools such as 3-Legged 5-Why (3L5Y), 8D, and A3.

Launch & Warranty Support: Conduct launch quality and warranty deep-dive reviews to help identify recurring failure modes, risk areas, lessons learned, potential systemic improvements, and ultimately support warranty reduction workstreams.

Lessons Learned & Best Practices: Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product Development, Plant Quality, and Global Engineering) to support the development and implementation of best practices, drive continuous improvement and issue resolution, and document and cascade Quality Operating System (QOS) lessons learned into forward-model programs.

Continuous Improvement Across Operations: Support the update and enhancement of production quality tools/systems, training materials, and data analysis methods/reporting across manufacturing engineering, including DRIM maintenance.

Plant Support & Travel: Travel to Powertrain Manufacturing Plants as required, including occasional overnight stays, to support launch teams, deep dives, and plant quality initiatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Quality Systems Expertise: Demonstrated technical knowledge of Quality Processes, such as Quality Operating System (QOS), Process FMA (SCCAF/SCCP, FMEA, Control Plans), Bill of Process (BOP), Quality Launch Readiness Assessments, 3-Legged 5-Why Problem Solving, DMAIC, and Global 8D methodologies.

Six Sigma Certification: Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

Core Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with Core Engineering Systems such as MIDAS, FEDE, Global Manufacturing Requirements / Knowledge Packets, engineering standards, and GPDS powertrain deliverables.

Technical & CAD Tools: Familiarity with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) tools (e.g., AutoCAD) and GD&T knowledge.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dearborn, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.30 - $46.53/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
