Job summary

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Quality and Food Safety (QFS) and the Quality and Food Safety Supervisor, the Quality and Food Safety Coordinator will work in all quality areas, assist in filling in for other Quality Techs, will be responsible for communicating to QFS management and plant personnel all regarding food safety, quality, and efficiency within the plants, and will be responsible for data entry and creation of certificate of analyses and other QFS reports. The Quality and Food Safety Coordinator will collaborate in Food Safety & quality inspections and compliance audits, and perform duties and responsibilities as needed with minimal supervision.

Position Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining the Document Control System and all associated data records for the Quality and Food Safety Department.
  • Assist with review, interpretation, and communication of information received on certificates of analysis (COA) from 3rd party laboratories utilized for analytical and microbiological testing, completing documentation as necessary.
  • Oversee the 3rd party laboratory portals, shipment of samples, and the documentation, tracking and trending of laboratory results.
  • Assist in reviewing quality and production documentation to ensure that all parameters are met and the required checks, signatures, initials, and other requirements for analysis are completed properly.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper product labeling, generation of COAs, product releases, data entry, and overall records review.
  • Assist with tracking of all quality holds, review of deviation paperwork, and other documents with the FSQ Supervisor and FSQ Manager.
  • Place non‑compliant products on hold (including labeling)and assist in the dispositioning of items that have been placed on hold. Take an active role in the maintaining of a Holds Log documenting, tracking, and managing all items placed on hold at the facility. Removing and relabeling the same items after having received a disposition.
  • Assist with executing and completing environmental testing / analysis and completing documentation of tests and results as well as implementing and executing corrective actions.
  • Pull product samples and/or swab for environmental testing to be evaluated by outside lab testing.
  • Assist in Food Safety and Quality Training, as directed by the Manager of Quality and Food Safety and the Quality and Food Safety Supervisor.
  • Perform internal facility audits and provide corrective actions for findings.
  • Assist in external audits and coordinate any follow-up actions required.
  • Responsible for ensuring work areas are clean and organized. Assist in monitoring and maintaining, and distributing an acceptable level of inventory of supplies needed to carry out the routine activities of the Edenton QFS Department and Team.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as but not limited to colorimeters, scales, moisture analyzers, and sieve shakers.
  • Conduct standardized testing of peanut ingredients processed to verify compliance with the specifications as required for the quality of the product, reporting any concerns to the QFS Management Team.
  • Record test results on standardized forms, including calculating percentages and averages. Must notify operator and supervisor of any non‑conformity and complete documentation of all actions and results.
  • Must be able to complete all QFS forms, labels and data entry in a consistent, accurate, and timely manner.
  • While performing these duties, the employee will be required to smell and taste samples of products to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Employees will be expected to clean and sanitize equipment and instruments when necessary. They are also expected to handle general housekeeping duties of their work area.
  • All employees are directly responsible for the Quality of Olam Edible Nuts products. Each employee must perform their job function in accordance to the GMP Rules and the Sanitation, Safety and Food Safety Plan.
  • Must follow safe work practices and comply with all company, federal and state rules and regulations which apply to the job, including but not limited to, right to Know, emergency evacuation, electrical safety, confined space, blood borne pathogens, and lockout/tagout.
  • Maintain the company's commitment to providing quality products and services with an emphasis on Food Safety, legality, and integrity.
  • Collaborate effectively with the facility’s other departments as it relates to food safety, quality, operational efficiencies, manning, and overall processes.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance

Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This role is performed on site at a facility that regularly processes peanuts. Employees in this position will routinely work in areas where peanuts and related allergens are present and may be exposed by contact or in the air. Reasonable accommodation may be available to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to perform math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, averages, and percentages, using a calculator.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervisor, ensuring that all tasks are completed.
  • Must possess the ability to work with all levels of employees in various functions within the organization.
