Quality Control Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: The Quality Control Field Technician (QC) is responsible for daily sampling and testing of materials in the lab and/or the field and ensuring finished goods meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow quality control plans or guidelines assigned
• Procure samples of asphalt for DOT compliance
• Complete daily paperwork and test logs
• Conduct field production and testing of asphalt
• Perform daily quality control testing and analysis of asphalt samples
• Responsible for safely operating, maintaining, and caring for assigned testing equipment
• May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends
• Perform any other duty as assigned

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• MARTCP Asphalt Field Technician Certification or VDOT Field Level II Certification
• U.S. DOT Radiation HAZMAT Certification
• 1-3 years of laboratory experience (industry experience preferred)
• Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
• Experience with various hot mix asphalt and aggregate lab equipment; such as gyratory compactor, sieves and ignition furnace
• Well-established organizational skills with strong attention to detail
• Solid math and reading skills, with the ability to understand technical manuals
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Word/Excel

Working Conditions

• May require standing for extended periods
• Prolonged exposure to the elements
• Ability to kneel, bend, and lift heavy materials
• Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals and laboratory equipment
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts)
• Climbing stairs daily to get to workstation
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening
