Job summary

Elanco is seeking a Quality Control Technician – Environmental Monitoring in Kansas, working on routine and non-routine microbiology, air and surface sampling, and utility testing to ensure sterile production environments meet stringent quality standards.

You will perform complex microbiology analyses on inputs and products, support aseptic processes, and contribute to laboratory stewardship and quality investigations. This role requires strong documentation and a commitment to GMP practices.

Qualifications

• Education: HS Diploma/GED with 5 years relevant experience or Bachelor's degree in a microbiology/biological/pharmaceutical related field.
• Experience in a laboratory or technical environment with microbiology focus.
• Strong aseptic technique, sterile gowning, and precise documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine environmental monitoring (air and surface sampling) and utility testing to ensure sterile production environments meet quality standards.
• Conduct microbiology-based analysis on raw materials, in-process samples and final products (including endotoxin, bioburden, TOC/Conductivity, sterility).
• Support production via aseptic process simulations and production fills; maintain gown qualification for sterile operations.
• Lead laboratory stewardship activities: grow media, microbial identification, equipment calibration, inventory and safety.
• Assist quality systems: investigate OOS/OOT, draft/revise SOPs, and prepare analytical study reports.

In this role, you will be responsible for the routine and non-routine monitoring of cleanroom air, surfaces, and critical utilities to support sterile production and regulatory excellence.Your Responsibilities:Perform routine and non-routine environmental monitoring (air and surface sampling) and utility testing (WFI, USP water, pure steam, and clean compressed air) to ensure manufacturing environments meet strict quality standards.Conduct complex microbiology-based analysis on raw materials, in-process samples, and final products, including endotoxin, bioburden, TOC/Conductivity, and sterility testing.Provide critical production support by participating in aseptic process simulations and production fills, maintaining gown qualification to operate within sterile manufacturing environments.Lead laboratory stewardship activities, including growth promotion of culture media, microbial identification, equipment calibration support, and maintaining meticulous inventory and safety standards.Support site quality systems by assisting in OOS/OOT investigations, drafting and revising SOPs, and preparing method validation protocols and analytical study reports.What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):Education: High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field.Experience: Demonstrated experience in a laboratory or technical environment with a focus on microbiology.Top 2 skills: Advanced technical proficiency in aseptic technique and sterile gowning, combined with excellent organizational and documentation skills.What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):Prior experience in a cGMP-regulated environment with specialized knowledge of FDA, USDA, and ISO requirements for pharmaceutical or veterinary biologics.Proven expertise in sterility testing, mycoplasma analysis, and water system monitoring.Experience with analytical method development, validation protocols, and the use of specialized instrument software to obtain results.Strong technical writing skills for the creation of quality procedures and investigation reports.Ability to succeed in a physically demanding role that requires long hours on your feet and the movement of heavy laboratory materials in a cross-functional team environment.Additional Information:Hours: 5pm - 1:30 am Mon-FriLocation: 1411 Oak Street, Elwood, KS 66024Don’t meet every single requirement?
