Job summary

Morris-Shea Bridge Co., Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Technician (Concrete) to assist with the development and testing of concrete and grout mixes on project sites. You will perform quality control tasks under supervision to help ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Responsibilities include sampling concrete, grout, and materials; conducting basic ASTM tests; observing production activities; and supporting team communication and safety protocols on site.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in construction materials preferred.
  • Basic math and measurement skills are required; training provided.
  • Valid driver’s license required for job-related travel to project sites.
  • ACI Field-Testing Technician Grade I certification preferred.

Position Summary

The Quality Control Technician (Concrete) assists with the development and testing of concrete and grout mixes for various projects. Under supervision, this role performs quality control tasks to help ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Essential Functions

  • Sample Collection: Collect and prepare concrete, grout, and other material samples.
  • Concrete Testing: Perform basic tests on fresh concrete in accordance with ASTM procedures. Ensure strength test specimens are prepared and cured properly.
  • Field Observation: Observe production activities, including monitoring truck slump upon arrival, verifying batch weights are accurate and within standards, confirming the lab of record performing testing in accordance with ASTM and MSB specifications, and supporting plant inspections.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support project team members with mix design adjustments, quality checks, and related coordination.
  • Site Safety: Follow site safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Reporting: Communicate observations clearly and concisely to appropriate on-site personnel.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in construction materials preferred. Basic math and measurement skills are required. No prior quality experience required; training provided.
  • Requirements: Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office applications. Valid driver’s license required for job-related travel to project sites.
  • Certifications: ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I certification preferred.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with construction materials and laboratory work.
  • Working knowledge in deep foundation piling.
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I certification.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and willingness to learn job-related procedures.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements

This role involves both office and field work, including work at active production or project sites. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use a computer. The role may require working around moving equipment, climbing ladders, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, and working in varying weather conditions.
