Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks qualified candidates for a quality assurance role. You will perform analyses, inspections, and tests of materials and finished products to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory standards, and you will document findings and reports.

Ideal candidates are graduates of the NNS Apprentice School and NNPS programs, with a High School diploma or GED and 2–4 years of related manufacturing or shipbuilding experience.

Qualifications

• Requires hands-on quality assurance work, including testing and data collection.
• Strong ability to document results and maintain records.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Experience with manufacturing, shipbuilding, or related trades preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform analyses, inspections, and tests of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative assays, verify equipment functionality, and support maintenance of test instruments.
• Review production records for conformance to procedures and generate quality statistics and reports.
• Perform non-conformance tests and document findings to support corrective actions.

The Role

Performs analyses, inspection, and tests of raw materials, packaging materials, quantitative assays on samples, and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure quality standards and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements, and tolerance specifications for the chemical or physical property. Performs a variety of qualitative tests or qualitative assays on samples, and to aid in maintenance and certification of test instruments and apparatus to ensure compliance. Performs required inspections, checks, analysis and documentation of studies. Prepares and monitors quality statistics and reports. Reviews production records for conformance to procedures. Conducts non-conformance tests of manufactured, packaged or tested product.
