Quality Control Technician (12 Hour Nights - Rotating Weekends)

12 Hour Nights: Night shift from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on a rotating 2‑2‑3 schedule. Team members work every other weekend.

Entry‑level support for the Quality Department: water testing, raw milk testing, load‑out testing, finished product testing, microbiological and chemical tests, data entry and reporting, special studies, calibrations, and interdepartmental communication.

Responsibilities

  • Operate lab instrumentation correctly (moisture/solids, protein, fat, pH, microbiology, Foss equipment).
  • Ensure instrumentation is operated safely, efficiently and sanitarily.
  • Obtain and maintain required licenses (NYS milk receiver, Appendix N, Phosphatase, or PMO certification).
  • Verify raw milk meets specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform testing and documentation of bulk product loadouts.
  • Conduct daily quality line audits and testing on the plant floor.
  • Perform sensory evaluations as required.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory data worksheets and logs.
  • Protect confidentiality of results and reports pursuant to Company policy.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area and keep supplies stocked.
  • Use Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation.
  • Communicate results promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare solutions and media for laboratory tests.
  • Notify QA Manager and supervisors of abnormal results or defects, perform re‑checks.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Follow GMP and GLP rules.
  • Ensure verification of approved raw milk producers; maintain PMO certification if required.
  • Assist with state and federal inspections.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.

Skills & Qualifications Required

  • College education preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 1 year laboratory experience.
  • Proficient written and verbal English skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • 40‑45 hour work week, including sitting, standing, walking and lifting up up to 50 lbs.

Food Safety Requirements

  • Notify supervision of repairs or adjustments affecting quality or safety.
  • Adhere to color‑coded container policy in production areas.
  • Meet Company, Customer and Government standards.
  • Initiate actions to prevent food safety nonconformities.
  • Record and control non‑conforming products.
  • Cover shift duties when absent.
