Job summary

Corbion in Totowa, NJ is seeking a Quality Control Technician to ensure product quality through GMP/FSMA compliance, lab testing, and HACCP adherence.

You will perform daily analyses, calibrations, line audits, and support safety and process improvements in a loud manufacturing setting. The role requires an Associate's Degree in chemistry or related field and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Chemistry, Bio‑Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or Microbiology.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment within a related industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and equipment calibration.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with GMPs, FSMA, HACCP, and company policies.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), FSMA, Safety, and Environmental regulations as well as company policies.
  • Maintain a positive attitude. Focus on the customer, teamwork, and quality productivity.
  • Give recommendations to improve workplace safety, efficiency, and to better serve the customer.
  • Analyze finished product for various analytical testing including redox, Chittack, pH, % moisture, % salt and titratable acid (TA) on a daily basis.
  • Daily verification/calibration of lab equipment prior to testing finished product to ensure product quality.
  • Check scale calibration during line/pre‑operation audits, to ensure that the scales used in Caravan’s processes are accurate.
  • Perform metal detector checks four times per shift, to maintain the integrity of the HACCP plan during line audits.
  • Verify that the box/pail weights are accurate by checking three consecutive boxes/pails on all machines during line audits.
  • Ensure that lot codes and finished product packages are correct and legible.
  • Perform bake testing related to shipping or complaints.
  • Product that has been analyzed and does not meet specification must be re‑sampled and re‑analyzed immediately. If product is not in compliance, HOLD stickers must be applied immediately and system hold activated.
  • Perform line audit checks inspecting ingredients and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all required laboratory training classes.

Education & Experience

Position Location and Working Environment
  • Large open floor areas with loud machinery; ear protection may be required.
  • Exposure to high temperatures in summer and cold environments in winter.
  • Workers are required to wear safety glasses, hair nets, and safety shoes.
  • Dusty environment due to raw materials.
  • Exposure to allergens including eggs, soy, sesame seeds, milk, and wheat.
Physical Demands
  • Must wear GMP‑compliant hair and beard nets, company‑provided uniforms, gloves, and respirators in certain areas.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive laboratory or line auditing tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $24.00 to $25.00. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type years of and experience within the industry, education, etc. Please note, Corbion is a multi‑state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations.
