Ash Grove Cement Company in Utah is seeking a Quality Control Specialist to support plant testing, ensure compliance with specifications, and work a shift-based schedule; experience with ASTM/AASHTO preferred. Position:Quality Control Specialist - Shift
Reports to: Quality Manager

What you'll be contributing:
Under general supervision and according to established polices and procedures, performs physical testing for the plant as needed and maintains physical testing equipment in the lab. Conducts laboratory tests to ensure that products meet specifications (i.e., ASTM, AASHTO). Complies with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures. All employees at the Leamington plant are responsible for working safely. Employees are fully expected to engage in our See Stop Do culture following all safety procedures and proactively stopping the job and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards or concerns.
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Understand, evaluate, and monitor hazards that may exist in laboratory.
Performs all chemical testing required on plant product, raw materials, and plant processed materials; including loss on ignition, insoluble residue, 30µ and 325 mesh screen testing, Blaine, x-ray elemental analysis by fused bead and/or pressed pellet, free lime, CO2 determination, and other tests, as needed.
Prepares chemical solutions used in performing chemical analyses.
Records all x-ray analyses within the company’s electronic database.
Maintains appropriate documentation and records of chemical tests performed, lab waste, and other records, upon request.
Maintain chemical testing equipment in good working condition and in good calibration with the assistance of the Chief Chemist.
Maintains an accurate inventory of required testing materials as designated.
Assists other lab personnel, as needed.
On a continual basis, observes all safety rules and keeps work areas and equipment clean and orderly.
Inform the Chief Chemist of any out of specification samples or problems, as needed.
Attends professional workshops and seminars for job related study.
Acts as XRF Champion for the plant with all responsibilities listed in CRH XRF Policy

To succeed in this position, you will need:
B.A. / B.S. degree in chemistry (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of experience performing relevant tests in a cement laboratory environment preferred.
1 yr experiencepreferred performing relevant tests in a cement laboratory environment.
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
B.A. / B.S. degree in chemistry (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of the cement manufacturing process, including the kiln burning process, mill grinding, as well as cement, clinker and raw mix chemistry.
Knowledge of theories, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to the fields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
Familiarity with various types of chemical analysis. Knowledge of general laboratory procedures
Ability to perform precise and accurate analysis and testing with minimal directions and supervision while maintaining a close attention to detail.
Ability to develop and follow comprehensive technical directions.
Ability to operate all physical testing equipment and laboratory computer.
Skills needed include mathematical, analytical, orgiznation and communication skills, proper time management, and the ability to handle working under pressure.
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 80 lbs
