Job description

Overview

The Quality Control / Mechanical Inspector is responsible for performing inspection activities to ensure products and services conform to established quality standards. This position has the freedom and authority to initiate action to prevent product or service nonconformity, identify and record quality problems, and recommend solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality control inspections in accordance with applicable inspection specifications and standards.
  • Interpret inspection specifications and customer blueprints.
  • Apply knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to inspection activities.
  • Use mechanical measuring equipment proficiently and in accordance with established procedures: Nikon Optical Comparator, blade/inch/metric micrometers, OGP systems, Instron tensile/hardness testing, and go/no-go gauges.
  • Perform First Inspection (FI) of new or revised parts to verify dimensional conformance prior to production release.
  • Perform clerical functions including data recording, lot traceability & control, and basic report writing.
  • Identify nonconforming products or services and initiate appropriate corrective action, including proper labeling and quarantine.
  • Maintain quality records and support statistical process control (SPC) activities, including X-Bar/R charts and Cp/Cpk analysis.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • First Key Responsibility
    • Prior product inspection experience in a manufacturing environment required.
    • Experience in using monitoring and measuring devices required.
    • Blueprint reading experience required.
  • Second Key Responsibility
    • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9000, QS 9000, AS 9100, TL 9000) preferred.
    • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14000) preferred.
    • Proficiency with mechanical measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply customer blueprints and technical specifications.
    • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Non-essential Responsibilities

Work Environment

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It’s important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
