The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of related commercial construction experience, advanced quality control expertise, and strong communication to coordinate with subcontractors, clients, and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on a Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a plus
  • Advanced understanding of construction quality control and ability to manage and supervise teams

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all QC areas, including compliance with the “BIG-D Quality Control Policies”
  • Plans QC efforts to coordinate with the project schedule
  • Assists Superintendent to coordinate quality requirements for subcontractors’ work
  • Maintains deficiency tracking logs and ensures corrective actions are implemented
  • Uses Procore to document all QC activities
  • Maintains a physical presence on site during assigned scope of construction

Job description

Big-D Construction is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quality Manager to champion quality excellence. This leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining project quality programs that ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, company standards, and client expectations.

Location

This position is for a Temple project for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cincinnati, OH.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who thrives in a dynamic construction environment and can effectively collaborate with team members, trade partners, clients, and project stakeholders at all levels. They possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to anticipate challenges before they arise, and the resourcefulness to develop practical, effective solutions.

Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. A high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality is essential. The Quality Manager will also drive continuous improvement efforts by identifying quality trends, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring compliance with established quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management with 5 years of related experience working on commercial construction projects; or 10 years of related experience
  • Experience working on a Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a plus
  • Advanced understanding of construction quality control and ability to manage and supervise teams

Critical Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of established construction practices, procedures, and techniques, as well as applicable local, state, and federal building codes as required by the project requirements
  • Strong communication skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, contract documents and specifications
  • Ability to interact effectively with designers, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, subcontractors, and other employees of the organization
  • Possess strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Procore.
  • Ability to learn and utilize additional project platforms (Management Software, Commissioning Software, etc.) as required by the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

Quality Control

  • Responsible for all QC areas, including compliance with the “BIG-D Quality Control Policies”
  • Plans QC efforts to coordinate with the project schedule
  • Assists Superintendent to coordinate quality requirements for subcontractors’ work
  • Assists with the commissioning process as needed
  • Conforms to all contractual requirements, specifications, codes and standards
  • Compiles accurate records of test certifications and other required documentation
  • Creates and maintains deficiency tracking logs. Notifies project management and subcontractors of quality discrepancies, and ensures corrective action is implemented properly
  • Coordinates the quality control efforts of subcontractors and suppliers to correspond with the overall quality control plan and project schedule
  • Reviews and coordinates submittals and approvals for contractor-furnished materials and equipment
  • Establishes level of workmanship, and verifies that it meets required workmanship standards
  • Utilizes office software to prepare quality control plan, and track dates and minutes for quality control meetings
  • Utilizes Procore software to document all QC activities
  • Maintains a physical presence on site at all times during assigned scope of construction or at all times, as required by contract documents
  • Assists with scheduling special inspection.
  • Performs field quality checks to assure that all materials on site are those that have been submitted, and approved per the contract documents
  • Physically examines required materials, equipment, and sample work to assure they are on hand, properly stored, and conforming to approved shop drawings or submitted data
  • Inspects facilities of offsite fabricators and suppliers, as required, to assure that the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications are met and maintained and to assure delivery of quality products
  • Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Additional Tasks

  • Participates in weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, as required
  • Reviews and provides input in creation of and updates to the construction schedule
  • Distributes QC meeting minutes and inspection test results
  • Assists the project management team in areas deemed necessary
  • Inspects and ensures that all quality control inspections are carried out in a timely basis
  • Conducts preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspection meetings
