Job summary

Misfits Market is a mission-driven startup aiming to reduce food waste and provide affordable, high‑quality groceries. The Quality Control Lead will perform QC checks across the warehouse—from inbound to outbound—ensuring SQF compliance and top product quality, while documenting results and escalating issues as needed.

You’ll support the operations team by maintaining safety, accuracy, and efficiency, training new staff, and acting as a QC backup during supervisor absences, with a compensation

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Experience or comfort with working in a refrigerated environment (36 degrees).
• Strong verbal communications skills.
• Willingness to work overtime and/or weekends if needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively.
• Ability to stand, squat, kneel, and bend repeatedly.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with all state and local regulations for a food-based facility.
• Strictly adheres to the SQF Food Safety Code while monitoring the warehouse floor to ensure GDP compliance.
• Drives a proactive culture, escalating concerns and taking swift action.
• Performs frequent QC inspections on produce and grocery products, removing and documenting items that fail inspection.
• Documents and maintains records of all food products in the warehouse including discarded/damaged items.
• Validates quality and shelf-life of inbound deliveries; maintains databases and spreadsheets with current data.
• Identifies and reports potential food safety or quality problems to the QC Supervisor.
• Performs basic mathematical computations during audits, inspections, and cycle counts.
• Ensures non-conforming materials are segregated and labeled for hold or sort.
• Owns inbound quality inspections and documentation; verifies quality and shelf-life of backstock.
• Reviews internal channels for inbound trends and reimbursement reports; plans accordingly.
• Manages time and changing priorities to minimize downtime in receiving/production.
• Trains new team members according to company processes; communicates effectively.
• Serves as backup to QC Supervisor and QA Lead; represents the FC in their absence.

How you’ll support our operations:

At Misfits Market, our customers choose us for what we - quite literally - bring to the table: foods that may look a little different but are still fresh and safe to eat. The Quality Control Lead performs quality checks at all touch-points in the product's journey through the warehouse including inbound, storage, production line, and outbound boxes. They are the first person to review study data, so attention to detail and a knack for problem-solving are essential.

The Quality Control Lead reports to the Quality Supervisor and is an important member of the operations team. By prioritizing food safety in the warehouse, your expertise ensures that our customers continue to receive the high-quality, delicious, and affordable food they love.

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 2PM to 1030PM

What you’ll be doing:

• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complies with all state and local regulations for a food-based facility.
• Strictly adheres to the SQF Food Safety Code while monitoring the warehouse floor to ensure all employees consistently follow Good Distribution Practices (GDP) rules.
• Drives a proactive “see something, say something” culture, effectively escalating concerns and taking swift action appropriate to their level of responsibility.
• Performs frequent QC Inspections on produce and grocery products throughout the warehouse, removes and documents any items that fail inspection.
• Documents and maintains legible, accurate records of all food products in the warehouse including discarded and damaged products from various departments.
• Responsible for validating the quality and accuracy of inbound deliveries, including temperature and pressure checks. Maintains databases and internal spreadsheets with current data.
• Identifies and reports any potential food safety or quality problems, immediately escalating to the QC Supervisor.
• Performs basic mathematical computations when conducting audits, inspections, and cycle counts.
• Ensures non-conforming materials are segregated and labeled for hold, rejection, or sort.
• Owns the inbound quality inspections and documentation processes. Verifies the quality and shelf-life of products in backstock and storage.
• Reviews internal communication channels for inbound trends and reimbursement reports, and makes plans accordingly.
• Effectively manages time and changing priorities to minimize downtime in the receiving and production departments.
• Applies strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to train new team members according to company processes.
• Serves as backup to QC Supervisor and QA Lead, represents the FC in times of QC Supervisor's absence.
