Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.
  • General Inspector Qualification.
  • VT certification or the ability to gain this certification.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying structured problem-solving practices (e.g. 5 Whys).
  • Advanced computer skills with listed systems (MS Office, LCA, MMS, Shop Portal, ECM, MIS, SEM, SharePoint, Railinc, ETQ, Power BI).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as QA Documents, IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, drawings, AAR Field Manual and AAR MSRPs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Hold Point Inspections including after-repair and after finishing inspections; document results and address defects.
  • Lead discussions on communicating findings and investigate trends.
  • Function as designated add-on approver.
  • Assist quality team with internal audits to confirm compliance with requirements and implement corrective actions.
  • Act as a technical quality resource for GATX personnel and support staff development of quality knowledge.

Position Purpose: The Quality Control Lead will support the execution of the quality program and its components to ensure compliance to regulatory, GATX and customer requirements. This position will also support investigation, discussion and analysis of quality and maintenance related issues and implementation of quality improvements at the facility.

The individual in this position will interact with all levels of personnel throughout both the facility and the organization. The primary focus of this position is serving as a technical resource to ensure railcar repairs and all related activities are in compliance with documented repair guidelines prepared by regulatory agencies, railcar engineers and customers.

Responsibilities
  • Hold Point Inspections
    • Perform after-repair, after finishing and any other hold point inspections
    • Document results and ensure defects are addressed
    • Lead discussion on communicating findings
    • Investigate trends
  • Add-Ons
    • Function as designated add-on approver
  • Auditing
    • Assist quality team with internal audits to confirm compliance with GATX, regulatory and customer requirements
    • Work with applicable individuals to devise adn implement actions to correct deficiencies and follow up on those actions to ensure effectiveness, as needed
  • Technical Resource
    • Function as a technical quality resource for GATX personnel throughout the facility
    • Apply the GATX Quality program requirements to railcar repairs and support the development of others' quality knowledge
Qualifications
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent

This position requires moderate physical activity. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, climb, kneel and crouch.

This position requires minor travel.
