Job summary

Novo Nordisk’s Emerging Technologies site in Durham, NC seeks a Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist to support calibration, maintenance, and repair of lab instruments. You will schedule service resources and ensure documentation is complete and compliant with GMP standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Schedule resources for third party instrument services.
  • Record activities and write work orders clearly.
  • Review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain instrument calibration, maintenance and repair records.
  • Support investigations and problem solving in cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure GMP and compliance protocols for instrument validation.
  • Perform duties according to schedule and department plan.
  • Monitor instrument performance and address potential issues.
  • Contribute to process confirmations and training as required.

In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our Emerging Technologies -Solid Dosage Forms US facility in Durham, NC is a 194,000 square foot tableting and packaging facility that supports the production of our innovative oral treatments for patients with type 2 diabetes. SDF maintains a curious and pioneering spirit, harmonious with our growing pipeline of new products and emerging technologies.

The Position

Works closely with Laboratory personnel to support repairs, preventive maintenance & calibration of laboratory instrumentation. Schedule resources as related to third party instrument services. Responsible for activities related to BMS & alarm handling.

Relationships

Reports to Manager, Senior Manager.

Essential Functions
  • Resource scheduling as related to third party instrument services
  • Accurately & legibly records all activities in appropriate documentation. Writes work orders
  • Reviews documentation for accuracy & completeness
  • Instrument specifications, scheduled maintenance, repair, & calibration
  • Identifies & handles deviations per proper procedures for measuring equipment
  • Supports cross-functional investigations & participates in systematic problems solving
  • Understand & execute GMP & compliance protocols for instrument validation
  • Executes work according to schedule & department plan
  • Evaluates instrument performance & responds to potential issues
  • Contributes to process confirmations
  • Maintains training qualifications on time. Supports training others as required
  • Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other duties, as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Ability to do close precision work with their hands. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting and standing) 50% of the time. May required corrected vision to 20/25 based on role. May require colour vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a relevant field of study from an accredited university required with a minimum of five (5) years of intense laboratory instrumentation experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
  • May consider an Associate’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a relevant field of study from an accredited university with a minimum of seven (7) years of intense laboratory instrumentation experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
  • May consider an High School Diploma (GED) with a minimum of nine (9) years of intense laboratory instrumentation experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
  • Laboratory instrument calibration, maintenance & repair experience required
  • High attention to detail required
  • Excellent customer service skills
