Job summary

G&W Electric Co in Romeoville, IL is seeking a Quality Control Inspector I to inspect components and assemblies for conformance to process controls using visual inspection and measuring tools of basic complexity. You will perform final inspection, train others, and participate in audits and customer inspections.

The role requires the ability to read drawings, basic computer skills, and experience with measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers; prior manufacturing experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • The ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, bills of material, wiring and ladder diagrams.
  • Basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel; ERP experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers; use of a Fluke multimeter.

Responsibilities

  • Perform final inspection tasks on switches and part orders.
  • Train production personnel in effective process control methods.
  • Perform internal process audits and report findings.
  • Shut down non-conforming processes after notifying Supervisor.
  • Communicate drawing discrepancies to Engineering.
  • Participate in customer inspections as needed.
  • Assist in NCRs and in drafting Customer Improvement Initiatives.
  • Report ISO violations to Quality Manager.
  • Contribute to prototype reviews and dimensional analysis.
  • Create/implement process control charts for critical processes.
  • Maintain safe, clean working environment; conserve resources.
  • Train others and inspect all work before passing to next operation.

Job description

In this job you will inspect component parts and completed product for conformance to process controls using visual inspection and various measuring tools of basic complexity

As a Quality Control Inspector I you will:
  • Perform final inspection tasks on all switches and part orders being shipped.
  • Train production personnel in effective methods to control processes.
  • Perform internal process audits as required, report all findings.
  • The position has the authority to “shut down” non-conforming processes after notifying Supervisor.
  • Communicate drawing discrepancies to Engineering.
  • Participate in customer inspections as needed.
  • Assist team members in preparing and entering NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).
  • Write Customer Improvement Initiative (CII) for audits and assist employees who wish to report a problem requiring corrective action for repetitive problems.
  • Report violations of ISO standards to the Quality Manager.
  • Participate in the prototype review process for all newly developed products as needed
  • Assist in the dimensional analysis of components to help identify potential quality issues.
  • Responsible (along with team members from product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production) for the creation/implementation of process control charts for all critical processes Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Contribute to team effort by training others in the performance of inspection tasks as needed.
  • Inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has the ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, bills of material, wiring and ladder diagrams
  • Must have basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel Experience; using an ERP system is desirable
  • Has the ability to utilize measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers, “Fluke” multimeter
  • Has experience using small hand and power tools
  • Has a High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ideally has 1-3 years prior experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Work is classified as Medium - Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Dept of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles
  • Frequencies - Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); Continuous (67-100%)
  • Lifting Demands:
    • Lift up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis floor to waist with assistance
    • Lift up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis floor to waist
    • Carry up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis up to 25 feet
    • Push/Pull up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis
    • Push/Pull more than 40 pounds on an occasional basis with assistance
  • Postural Demands:
    • Standing – continuous
    • Walking – continuous
    • Bending/stooping – frequent
    • Squatting/kneeling – frequent
    • Lifting – frequent
  • Variable hand/power tool use – frequent
  • Two-person tasks using assistive devices for lifting, pulling and pushing including engine stands hand trucks, pallet jacks, and hoists
