Job summary

Doyon, Limited seeks a Quality Control Inspector with strong welding inspection background to lead QC activities on Arctic pipeline projects. You will implement QC programs, inspect welding and materials, and ensure compliance with project specs and codes.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of QC pipeline experience, knowledge of API 1104, and familiarity with coating inspection. Travel to job sites and collaboration with clients and vendors will be required.

Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector Certificate required.
  • 2+ years minimum QC inspection experience on pipelines.
  • Experience welding/inspecting carbon steel and alloy joints per client specs.
  • NACE Coating Inspector cert and coating systems experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of coating test equipment and field/shop coating inspection.
  • Arctic pipeline construction field experience.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas industry.
  • Strong verbal, written and listening skills.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe and Windows.
  • Familiarity with client DES MIS systems and API 1104.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in zero-incident safety and environmental culture.
  • Implement the project construction quality program at the job site.
  • Provide technical support interpreting codes, specs, and regs.
  • Perform QC activities: inspection, examination, testing to verify quality.
  • Participate in meetings to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Implement QC points in inspection and test plans with surveillance and record review.
  • Submit daily QC forms to supervisor.
  • Retain vital records for turnover packages.
  • Collaborate with DES managers to ensure compliance.
  • Review project requirements and ensure construction activities meet them.
  • Develop and witness QA/QC procedures and test plans.
  • Perform surveillance over subcontractors and vendors for compliance.
  • Conduct in-process welding inspection alongside welders without hindering work.
  • Prepare deviation reports for nonconformities.
  • Manage calibrated measurement equipment and ensure certifications.
  • Prepare punch lists and daily QC reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS And WORK ENVIRONMENT

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Implement, practice, and continually lead by example Doyon Energy Services' commitment to zero incident safety and environmental culture.
  • Implement the project construction quality program at the job site.
  • Provide technical support to the project field team for interpretation of various codes, specifications, and regulations
  • Carry out all quality control activities, including inspection, examination, and testing, to verify that the quality of welding, installed materials, and finished work complies with all aspects of the project specifications and requirements.
  • Participate in construction meetings with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and fabrication facilities to ensure compliance with and understanding of project requirements, applicable specification sections, and expected quality workmanship.
  • Implement quality control intervention points on inspection and test plans to include surveillance, witness, mandatory inspection, and record review.
  • Complete appropriate quality control forms during and after inspection of work; submit completed forms to supervisor daily.
  • Assist in ensuring vital records are retained and kept current for inclusion in document turnover packages.
  • Closely work with DES managers and supervisors to ensure understanding and compliance with all project requirements.
  • Review and understand project requirements, assist in ensuring all construction activities comply with project requirements.
  • Implement project quality control procedures, inspections, and test plans, and witness and record construction procedures.
  • Perform surveillance inspection over subcontractors, vendors, and fabrication facilities to ensure compliance in all respects with project specifications and standards.
  • Perform receipt inspection and monitoring of interim construction site storage areas for permanent materials.
  • Perform inspection and testing of in-process and completed installations.
  • Prepare deviation reports to document nonconforming conditions as required.
  • Control calibrated measuring and test equipment used on the project and verify all instruments have current certifications.
  • Perform completion inspection and develop punch lists of incomplete work.
  • Perform daily inspections to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Provide daily Quality Control Reports to the Quality Control Supervisor and project management.
  • Ensure testing is performed per referenced standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Must understand the risks of pipeline fabrication and construction and continually take proactive measures to mitigate all safety and environmental hazards.
  • Must understand the importance of quality workmanship and continually take proactive measures to ensure all construction activities meet or exceed corporate and client quality criteria and standards.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with clients' representatives, project supervision, and all other personnel and departments associated with DES projects.
  • Excellent understanding of contract provisions that address the scope of work, design criteria, and subcontractor, vendor, and fabrication quality assurance oversight.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret project specifications.
  • Ability to accurately and concisely communicate quality control concerns, verbally and in written form, to all levels of project management and supervision.

  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills.

  • Must plan and conduct daily activities in a highly organized manner to ensure all QC and QA data are properly and accurately recorded and controlled.
  • Must conduct in-process welding inspection next to welders without interfering with welder activities.
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate with client quality assurance and supervisory representatives, project management, and public agencies
  • Working knowledge of 49CFR, Part 192, API 1104, and API 1107.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of surface preparation and coating processes and applicable inspection/test methods of each.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret project specifications.
  • Ability to read maps, pipeline surveys, drawings, mechanical flow sheets, spool drawings, manufacturer data sheets, and all other design criteria.
