Qualifications

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of parts, sub-assemblies, and final aircraft assemblies.
  • Verify dimensions and configurations against drawings, models, and work instructions.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and gauges to verify tolerances.
  • Identify nonconforming materials and initiate defect reports in MRB when needed.
  • Maintain inspection records and conformity documents per FAA and QMS standards.
  • Support safety culture and continuous improvement in aerospace quality processes.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector, Inspection Team to execute hands-on inspection activities across our manufacturing operations. Reporting directly to the Quality Control Supervisor, this role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and strict conformity of our aircraft components and assemblies.

Please Note: This requisition focuses on standard visual and mechanical Quality Control inspections. Other positions, such as, Specialized Nondestructive Testing (NDT) a d highly complex Dimensional roles (such as Dimensional QETs utilizing advanced CMMs) were handled through separate specialized job postings.

Responsibilities
  • Perform receiving, in-process, and final physical inspections of parts, sub-assemblies, and final aircraft assemblies.
  • Verify physical characteristics, dimensions, and configurations against complex engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models, and work instructions.
  • Utilize standard mechanical inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, and thread gauges) to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
  • Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials; actively participated in the MRB process by initiating detailed defect reports.
  • Collaborate closely with Production and Quality Engineering teams to communicate quality issues and support root-cause investigations.
  • Maintain meticulous inspection records, traceability logs, and conformity documents in accordance with FAA and internal QMS standards.
  • Support a culture of safety, continuous improvement and strict compliance with aerospace quality requirements.
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 + years of hands-on quality inspection experience in a production environment. (Candidates with relevant Technical/Associate's degrees or A&P licenses may qualify with less experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Proficiency using standard precision measuring equipment and hand tools.
  • Strong computer skills for navigating ERP/MES systems, documenting nonconformances, and logging inspection data.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, ethics and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
Desired
  • Prior experience in a heavily regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., Aerospace, Aviation, Defense, Medical Device).
  • Working knowledge of FAA Part 21 or Part 145 regulations and AS9100 / ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience completing or verifying AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Active FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $25-$35 per hour. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
