Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Quality Control Inspector to oversee ITP implementation and ASTM-compliant inspections across sites. You will review materials, monitor tolerances, and ensure documentation aligns with project specifications.

The role requires 5+ years in construction, VT Level II or CWI certification, and the ability to read drawings and use inspection tools. Expect 40+ hours weekly with potential weekend work, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Proficient at understanding construction drawings.
• Knowledge of structural bolting methods (turn of the nut, direct tension indicators, impact wrenches).
• Visual Testing (VT)-VT Level II or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
• Ability to use weld inspection tools and coatings inspection tools.
• Ability to verify materials using Material Test Reports (MTRs).
• Familiarity with construction workplace health and safety concepts.
• Attention to detail and timely documentation.
• Must be at least 18 years of age; lift 50 pounds; work in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Generate documentation to show compliance with contract requirements, ITPs, and QA Manual.
• Maintain Quality Control records in an orderly, accessible manner.
• Follow SOPs for field Quality Control and document when required.
• Ensure materials, workmanship, and construction meet contract plans, specs, and codes.
• Generate Non Conformance Reports for non-compliant conditions.
• Be knowledgeable of assigned inspection criteria.
• Request corrective action for defective work or material until compliant.
• Approve receipt of materials per ASTM requirements.
• Accept or reject welds based on written criteria.
• Perform dimensional checks on materials in question.
• Conduct business professionally and ethically.
• Coach Craft in quality program processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Description

Oversee the implementation of Thompson’s Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’S) per the assigned site. Review materials to ASTM Requirements, which includes measuring of the components to ensure they are within the specification’s tolerance. This includes working with employees as well as outside agencies or consultants involved in inspections and testing.

Job Responsibilities

• Generate documentation to provide assurance of compliance to contract requirements, ITP’s and Thompson’s QA Manual
• Ensure all Quality Control records are maintained in an orderly, easily accessible, up to date and secure manner
• Ensure policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for Quality Control are being followed for field work and are documented when required
• Ensure that materials, workmanship and construction are in full compliance with the contract plans and specifications, and applicable building codes
• Generate Non Conformance Report (NCR) for any condition that does not comply with the applicable requirements or specifications
• Be knowledgeable of assigned inspection criteria
• Require that defective work or material be corrected or removed until made compliant
• Approve receipt of materials per ASTM requirements
• Accept or reject welds based on assigned written criteria
• Perform dimensional checks on materials in question
• Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner
• Effectively coach Craft in quality program processes
• Other duties as assigned
