The Quality Control Inspector II examines purchased material, in process work and finished product to ensure it meets DMF quality standards. The position performs incoming, in process and final inspection on LED luminaire components and assemblies, including printed circuit board assemblies, drivers, optics, castings, hardware and finished fixtures, and inspects returned product against RMA documentation. Beyond the Level 1 scope, the Inspector II works from engineering drawings where no inspection plan exists, writes and revises receiving inspection plans, determines sampling, dispositions material independently, maintains the calibration system, and provides technical guidance and training to Level 1 inspectors. The position works closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing and Order Entry to resolve discrepancies and support quality improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read, analyze and interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, receiving inspection plans and test procedures without supervision.
  • Utilize Work Instructions, Control Plans, Drawings and Quality Inspection Plans to perform visual, dimensional and functional inspections on assemblies, subassemblies, fixtures and raw material.
  • Write and revise receiving inspection plans for new and revised parts, and determine the appropriate sampling plan where none is established.
  • Understand and complete AQL sampling or 100% inspection and maintain inspection records using Excel.
  • Perform first article inspection on new parts, revised parts and new suppliers, and document the results.
  • Utilize various test equipment and collect data to determine component acceptance, including programmable AC and DC sources, dielectric withstand and ground continuity testing.
  • Generate and apply Material Accepted or Rejected labels once material is evaluated.
  • Generate Nonconforming Reports to record and control nonconforming material, and follow the nonconformance through to resolution.
  • Maintain records of inspections and prepare lists of defects, and interact with other departments to ensure compliance with specification and to facilitate the acceptance of parts.
  • Maintain Quality inspection equipment and keep it current with scheduled calibration, including gauge recall scheduling and certificate control.
  • Inspect returned product against the RMA form, paperwork and customer information, and document inspection results in the ERP system and complaints log.
  • Perform pilot inspection and support rework activity as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and on the job training to Level 1 inspectors in the correct use of equipment, specification compliance and proper recordkeeping.
  • Report quality problems or findings to the QC Supervisor and follow up to ensure that corrective action will take place.
  • Escalate issues that require further investigation or that cannot be processed thoroughly.
  • Interface with Engineering, Quality and Production teammates to communicate quality standards and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with disposition of nonconforming and returned product based on the decisions made in MRB meetings.
  • Support receiving activity, including unloading and palletizing, as required.
  • Sustain a safe and clean working environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five or more years of incoming, in process or final inspection experience in electronics, lighting, appliance or consumer hardware manufacturing. Three years considered where certification and demonstrated scope offset tenure.
  • IPC-A-610 certification at Certified IPC Specialist level or higher, or the ability to certify within six months of hire.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Working knowledge of AQL sampling to ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 or ISO 2859-1.
