Job summary

Coast Southwest, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Chemist to analyze materials in our QC Laboratory. You will work with chemists and plant personnel to ensure product quality and compliance with GMP.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Chemistry and at least two years of lab testing experience, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with MS Office. You will perform tests, approve releases, calibrate equipment, and participate in safety and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of lab testing experience.
  • Knowledge of QC lab practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely with others and follow protocols.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with chemists and plant personnel.

  • Perform microbiological plating techniques and readings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized laboratory with safety focus.
  • Participate in manager-directed improvement projects.
  • Calibrate, maintain and verify lab equipment and methods.
  • Create, maintain, and standardize reagents.
  • Follow GMP, SOPs, and site documentation.
  • Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager.

Job description

The Quality Control Chemist will be responsible for analyzing materials using a variety of instrumental and testing methods as part of the Coast Southwest Quality Control Laboratory Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other chemists and plant personnel.
  • Determine and calculate appropriate additions to batches.
  • Approve products, raw materials and samples for release.
  • Handle multiple tests and products simultaneously while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Perform proper microbiological plating techniques and reading determinations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory with special attention to safety.
  • Participate in improvement projects as directed by the manager.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and verification on lab equipment and methods.
  • Create, maintain, and standardize reagents.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, SOPs, and other site-specific documentation.
  • Participate in periodic safety and staff meetings.
  • Stay current on industry trends, standards, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with laboratory testing techniques, gained through education or employment.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control (QC) lab practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely both independently and with others while following all required safety protocols.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and follow through on tasks.
  • Strong aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with multiple internal departments at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds; working around hazardous chemicals; wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE); and performing physically demanding tasks involving lifting, bending, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mathematics and the ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
