Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks an experienced clinical educator to design and deliver staff education focused on patient safety and quality. The role supports HAC prevention and collaborates with leadership to elevate clinical practice across units.

You will mentor staff, participate in system-level initiatives, and ensure training aligns with HIPAA and data-driven quality goals. An RN with pediatrics background and state licensure is required.

Qualifications

  • 3 years RN experience in pediatrics.
  • Georgia RN licensure (or multi-state Compact).
  • BLS and PEARS certification within deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates education for staff to improve patient safety and quality of care.
  • Provides educational activities and orientation to improve clinical competence through mentoring.
  • Serves on HAC Quality leadership to facilitate collaboration and prevention.
  • Supports system-level education initiatives to improve care quality for patients and families.
  • Participates in committees, meetings and shared decision-making for staff development.
  • Maintains HIPAA confidentiality and collects data for monthly activity.

Job Description

Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates education for staff to improve patient safety and quality of care for patients and families. The scope of responsibility will encompass clinical practice as it relates to preventable harm from Hospital Acquired Conditions (HACs) and patient safety events. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children’s.

Experience
  • 3 years RN experience in pediatrics; designated specialty area or critical care is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in staff development, patient/family education, or community education
  • Previous experience with quality measures/patient safety; committee work helpful
  • Demonstrated experience with Excel
  • Ability to present/educate to different units, including management
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Certification Summary
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire
  • PEARS certification required within one year of hire
  • Certification in specialty (i.e. CPHON, CCRN), Nursing Professional Development (RN-BC), or Certified Pediatric Nursing (CPN) within one year of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Possesses excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience related to research with knowledge of research principles, methodologies and study design
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in doing medical summaries with strong analytical capabilities
  • Proficiency of EMR systems, Microsoft Excel and Access programs, and REDCap data base development.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills ranging from senior leaders to bedside staff
  • Adept at conflict resolution, problem solving, critical thinking, and prioritization of clinical needs
  • Ability to flex and adapt to changes in priorities
Job Responsibilities
  • While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines. This age population includes: N = Neonate (less than 30 days) I = Infant (30 days to 1 year) EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years) LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years) A = Adolescent (13-17 years) AD = Adult ALL - all ages
  • Provides educational activities and orientation designed to improve clinical competence through mentoring and demonstration.
  • Serves as part of the HAC Quality leadership team to facilitate collaboration of HAC Prevention.
  • Participates and supports education initiatives at the system level to ultimately result in improved quality of care to patients and families.
  • Participates in the clinical shared decision-making process, committees, task forces, meetings, and activities that assist in the development of Children’s clinical staff, and other related patient care providers, ultimately resulting in improved quality of care to patients and families.
  • Collaborates with staff and medical care team in identifying clinical issues for investigation/research and incorporates findings into practice.
  • Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge by functioning as a resource in the provision of family centered interdisciplinary care which is developmentally/age appropriate.
  • Participates in educational and leadership opportunities to enhance clinical expertise.
  • Collects and maintains clinical data primarily by bedside audits, review of medical records, discussion with physicians, RNs, families, and other personnel responsible for patient care and prognostic outcomes as it adheres to patient’s stays, outcomes, disease process, etc.
  • Requires interactive skills with other hospital staff and/or departments for purposes of requesting and collecting data as it applies to the stated requirements.
  • Retrieves and tabulates necessary data regarding monthly patient activity.
  • Adheres to HIPAA requirements pertaining to strict confidentiality regarding patient data, quality assurance indicators and results of information collected.
  • Participates in reviewing necessary outcome trends, analysis and opportunities.
  • May update training and maintain certification requirements.
  • Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of quality data entry and analysis.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.
