Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Sayreville, NJ is seeking a skilled inspector to communicate real-time inspection results, prepare samples, and operate spectrograph and related testing equipment. You will perform chemical analyses and ensure product conformity through physical testing, with strict record-keeping.

The role requires lifting 35–50 lbs, a non-climate-controlled environment, and a 12-hour rotating shift that may include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Experience with QMOS and SAP preferred
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
  • Capable to lift 35-50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Communicate inspection results in real time to the supervisor
  • Cut, prepare, and inspect samples from rolled products for dimension, weight and workmanship at the rolling process
  • Maintain and operate spectrograph and related equipment to test chemical composition
  • Maintain and operate tensile test machine and bending test apparatus to check product conformity
  • Maintain operating condition and standardization of two spectrographs and x-ray analyzer
  • Perform chemical analysis of steel samples and physical testing of products
  • Record, verify and submit test results
  • Enter results into the computer system in a timely manner
  • Utilize ancillary equipment as necessary
  • Verify test results against product specifications and support billet heat traceability

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and operate tensile test machine and bending test apparatus to check conformity of rolled product to specification physical requirements
  • Maintain operating condition and standardization of two spectrographs and x-ray analyzer, shear
  • Perform chemical analysis of steel samples and physical testing of products
  • Record, verify and submit test results
  • Use extensometer and recorder as required to enter results into computer system in a timely matter
  • Utilize ancillary equipment (metallography, potable hardness tester, etc.) when necessary
  • Verify test results against product specifications and support billet heat traceability activities
What You'll Need
  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environment
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift which may include weekends and holiday
  • Use math and knowledge of the job to determine if product is within specs
  • Must have Intermediate skills with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with QMOS, and SAP Preferred
  • Capable to perform the physical requirements of the job (lift 35-50 lbs.)
