Job summary

Mom’s Meals, a leading nationwide provider of refrigerated home-delivered meals, seeks a Quality Assurance Supervisor in Grinnell, IA. The role oversees HACCP, labeling, GMPs, and internal audits, with staff training and documentation responsibilities at our Grinnell kitchen.

You will supervise QA Technicians (4-5), coordinate with USDA/FSIS inspectors, and ensure compliance with safety standards while supporting continuous quality improvements across production lines.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Food Science or related field
• Certified in HACCP for meat, poultry and seafood
• Previous experience in an USDA/FSIS inspected food manufacturing facility with food safety and quality assurance
• Previous supervisory experience
• Must be able to read/write/speak in English
• Strong computer (MS Office), math, and measurement conversion skills
• Organized and detail-oriented with problem-solving skills
• Must be able to discern colors
• Ability to obtain all required certifications and renew as necessary
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
• Ability to learn/adapt to changing requirements/situations

Responsibilities

• Oversee Quality and Food Safety Programs (HACCP-Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Vegetables; Labeling; GMPs; Internal Auditing) and provide staff training and documentation
• Collaborate with USDA/FSIS inspectors, FDA and State regulators; obtain environmental and product samples as needed
• Monitor sanitation activities and assist in pre-op inspections
• Support internal audit program for quality and food safety plans
• Conduct daily sensory evaluation of foods produced and packaged
• Ensure safety guidelines are followed by production staff
• Supervise QA Technicians (4-5) and perform supervisor duties including attendance verification
• Initiate cleaning tasks in work areas as needed
• Facilitate communication between QA Team and Management Team
• Perform QA Technician responsibilities as required

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to

• Assist in overseeing Quality and Food Safety Programs (HACCP-Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Vegetables; Labeling; GMPs; Internal Auditing, etc.), including implementation, staff training and documentation
• Work with USDA/FSIS Consumer Safety Inspectors, FDA and State Regulatory Inspectors; Assist in obtaining environmental and product testing samples as needed
• Monitor sanitation activities and participate in pre-op inspections
• Assist with internal audit program for quality and food safety plans
• Conduct daily sensory evaluation of foods being produced and packaged
• Use all required safety equipment and consistently follow all food-related sanitation and operating safety guidelines; ensures that food production staff does the same
• Supervise Quality Assurance Technicians (4-5); perform supervisor duties including attendance verification
• Take the initiative to see and assign general cleaning tasks in work areas
• Provide communication between Quality Assurance Team and the Management Team
• Perform any and all Quality Assurance Tech responsibilities

Required Skills and Experience

• Associates Degree in Food Science, Culinary Science or related field
• Certified in HACCP for meat, poultry and seafood
• Previous experience in an USDA/FSIS inspected food manufacturing facility with food safety and quality assurance
• Previous supervisory experience
• Must be able to read/write/speak in English
