Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years as QA Analyst 2 or equivalent.
  • PCQI certification preferred.
  • 5+ years in QA in a food manufacturing facility.

Overview

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor reports to the QA Manager or Assistant Manager for a manufacturing facility and leads a team of QA Analysts. This role oversees the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance/control systems to ensure that products meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards, coordinate inspections, and monitor production processes to identify and resolve food safety and quality issues. The Supervisor ensures compliance with HACCP, GMPs, FDA/CFIA regulations, and company standards while providing training, development and guidance to their direct report team. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote continuous improvement, address customer complaints, and prepare for audits. This role spends a significant amount of time on the plant floor observing, coaching, and overseeing quality assurance processes.

Responsibilities

Leads a team of Quality Assurance Analysts and ensures completion of their essential functions.

  • Ensures food safety plans (i.e., HACCP) and quality and food safety systems are followed.
  • Oversees the product testing program, audits, and inspections.
  • Supports team in conducting Investigations and resolving non-compliance or quality issues.
  • Ensures team maintains accurate records and prepares reports for regulatory and internal use.
  • Leads QA training program and training initiatives to educate team members on quality standards and best practices.
  • Collaborates with production and management to drive improvements in product quality and efficiency.
  • Escalates failures in daily production to plant management that may affect plant efficiency and/or the Company.
  • Supports management in the resolution of major quality problems at the facility, associated warehouses, and market areas.
  • Lead facility Tier 2 meetings ensuring proper information is collected and presented daily.
  • Completes facility metric tracking and reporting to the Quality Manager.
  • Participates in Production Scheduling meetings and voices concerns as identified.
  • Reviews plant evaluation data and trends with plant management and makes appropriate recommendations. Establishes timelines for improvement and corrections.
  • Conducts routine audits as needed in all production areas.
  • Manages the QA Team schedule and completes QA team payroll.
  • Provides assigned data for and participates in management review meetings.
  • Leads HACCP management including plan maintenance and monthly food safety team meetings.
  • Leads facility audits.
  • Leads and executes facility mock traceability program/exercises.
  • Leads and executes the facility internal systems audit program.
  • Responsible for ongoing team development through identified gaps, supporting Individual Development Plans, and performance management.
  • Supports and/or leads special projects as assigned by the Quality Manager.
  • Conducts Behavior Based Observations (BBO) as assigned.
  • Identify and deploy methods to improve processes to reduce waste, improve productivity, improve quality and/or consistency.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum requirement).
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Quality Assurance Analyst 2.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field preferred.
  • PCQI certified.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Quality Assurance in a food manufacturing facility

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, lift, reach, and bend while moving about the facility. Must be able to stand up for an 8-12-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks. Earplugs, hairnets and steel-toed shoes are required per company and plant GMP and Safety requirements.
