Job summary

OSI Group in Chicago offers an internship designed to learn the essentials of running a food manufacturing line through hands-on, project-based work. You’ll gain experience in data collection, process improvement, and quality auditing within a real production environment.

Daily tasks include documenting test results, drafting and maintaining SOPs, monitoring corrective actions, and participating in cross-functional teams. At internship end you present findings to the corporate management team.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a relevant internship or program.
• Ability to collect, document, and transfer test results.
• Strong data collection and trend analysis skills.
• Familiarity with SOPs and corrective actions.
• Comfort with manufacturing environments and PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Our internships provide an opportunity to learn what it takes to run a food manufacturing line. Your experience will be project based, with projects varying depending on current business needs. Typical projects include process improvement projects, related to improving yield, reducing waste, etc. As an intern you can expect to gain valuable experience and insight into the workings of food manufacturing environment. At conclusion of Internship, you are expected to prepare a final presentation on the results of your assigned project(s) and will present your findings to members of the corporate management team.

• Collect, document, review, and transfer test results from external sources to internal documentation
• Perform data collection, trend quality metrics, and communicate results
• Draft, implement, and maintain SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
• Assist in developing, updating, and monitoring of corrective and preventive actions
• Daily logging of incoming raw materials into a database
• Sample preparation testing
• Learn and apply standards and principles of auditing and related techniques
• Ability to analyze audit data to identify trends and summarize in reports with recommendations to management
• Participate in cross-functional projects, work groups.

Compensation/Benefits

The hourly range for this role is $22.00. Offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on skills, experience, and internal equity. In rare cases, highly qualified candidates may receive an offer above the midpoint; however, offers at the maximum of the range are not customary. The salary range posted represents the low and high end of OSI’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, experience, and performance. Base salary is one component of OSI’s overall total rewards package. Other components may include bonuses, special pay programs, comprehensive time off, 401k with match, and a full suite of benefit offerings for you and your family. Work is generally performed within a manufacturing environment subjected to temperatures of cold and warm along with wearing the proper PPE, with standard office equipment available along with plant manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or finger, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen. As an intern you can expect to gain valuable experience and insight into the workings of food manufacturing environment.
