Job summary

Bastion Technologies, Inc. seeks a Quality Assurance Specialist to support the space program at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL.

Qualifications

  • Requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer information.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, technical charts and specification sheets.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements.
  • Willingness to work onsite with travel as needed.
  • Experience in quality inspection and documentation practices.
  • SMA STEP 1 and NDE Level II certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality plans, surveillance plans, inspection instructions, First Article Inspections, and Nonconformance resolutions.
  • Provide technical reviews for assurance of quality requirements compliance during hardware production and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform process surveillance using witnessing/monitoring techniques and verify test result/documentation of raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies per approved inspection documents/specification requirements.
  • Maintain current, company and customer training and certifications to maintain a quality inspection stamp and meet stamp warranty expectations.
  • Work with Bastion and NASA personnel to resolve inspection questions and communicate technical issues to project engineers to ensure compliance with final product specification requirements.
  • Perform accurate mechanical, physical, and visual inspections, monitor and/or perform nondestructive test/evaluation, verify test results and documentation per inspection documents/specification requirements.
  • Interpret QA system level requirements while performing all quality assurance duties (ISO/AS9100).
  • May initiate corrective action reports, document inspection results and monitor corrective actions for effectiveness.
  • Maintain SMA STEP 1 and NDE Level II certifications and related training.
  • Collaborate with Bastion and NASA SMA personnel to resolve surveillance and examination results and communicate issues to project engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Quality Assurance Specialist will support the space program in the MSFC Safety Mission Assurance Booster Resident Office at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide support on all quality areas to include Quality Plans, Surveillance Plans, Inspection Instructions, First Article Inspections, and Nonconformance resolutions.

  • Provide technical reviews for assurance of quality requirements compliance during hardware production and manufacturing processes.

  • Perform process surveillance using witnessing/monitoring techniques and verify test result/documentation of raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies per approved inspection documents/specification requirements.

  • Maintain current, company and customer training and certifications to maintain a quality inspection stamp and meet stamp warranty expectations.

  • Maintain current, company and customer training and certifications. Specifically, SMA STEP 1 and NDE Level II certifications.

  • Work as part of an integrated team with Bastion Technologies and NASA SMA personnel to resolve surveillance and examination result questions and communicate technical issues to project engineers to ensure compliance.

REQUIRED:

  • Must have10+ years of recent and related work experience.

  • Possess the ability to read blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.

  • Possess the ability to prepare written documentation of inspection results using company/customer forms or software.

  • Must be knowledgeable in AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements.

  • Candidates should be comfortable with adapting to changing environments (work assignments, customers) quickly in support of the mission.

  • Candidate must be willing to perform Inspection/Witness of Vendors hardware, as well as perform General QA Inspection and surveillance as normal day-to-day operations.

DESIRED:
  • The ideal candidate will have a familiarity with NASA Quality Systems and procedures.

  • Knowledge of KSC/VAB and/or Launch Vehicle manufacturing and/or aerospace related experience.

  • Multiple of the following certifications: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Penetrant Testing (PT) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiographic Testing (RT) and Eddy Current Testing (ET) minimum Level I desired.

  • Previous experience working with aerospace flight critical hardware in an ESD/FOD sensitive environments, witnessing critical quality assurance and assembly operations of various components and complex assemblies.

  • Mechanical Inspector with experience utilizing calipers, micrometers, optical measurement devices and other shop tools.

  • Experience in creating written reports for inspections/S&MA surveillance assignments.

WORK LOCATION:
  • This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.

  • Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

  • This position will require periodic shift work and (paid) overtime.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
