Job description

SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Clinical Quality Manager, the responsibilities of this position are to ensure that quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives are carried out and department EMS staff delivers quality patient care and Patient Care Reports. The QA/QI Specialist will work in close conjunction with Regional Chief of Operations, District Chiefs, Field Crews, Billing Management, and the EMS Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director to ensure a robust quality assurance program for EMS providers throughout the company. This is a hybrid-remote position: routine QA/QI review, reporting, and documentation work may be performed remotely, but the role requires the employee to regularly observe and participate, in person, in field and operational settings, such as EMS ride-alongs with crews and observation in dispatch centers, in order to maintain direct familiarity with clinical operations. The QA/QI position is a 40 hour per week position with possibility of overtime upon the approval of the Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Responsibilities include, but not limited to)



  • Complete and publish QA/QI reports as directed

  • Ensure that QA/QI is completed daily for Clinical compliance

  • Ensure that the Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director, Regional Chief of Operations and Billing Director are informed of all QA/QI indicators as directed

  • Ensure confidentiality of all QA/QI findings and investigations

  • Establish and maintain a positive and learning based QA/QI process that seeks to grow employees into better providers.

  • Present training plans for individual providers and department needs to the Regional Chief of Operations, District Chiefs and EMS Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director

  • Communicates through chain of command

  • Serves as a supervisory contact and communication conduit for all field and staff related to the QA/QI process

  • Regularly observe and participate, in person, in field and operational settings, such as EMS ride-alongs with crews and observation in dispatch centers

  • Attend meetings as directed and available

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Must be able to utilize computers and mobile phones to relay and record departmental information as well as clocking in/out

  • Learning new functions, apps and utilities

  • Must have a Working Knowledge of:

  • HIPAA patient confidentiality

  • Texas EMS as well as Medicare/Medicaid compliance rules

  • Incident Command & Incident Management Systems

  • Educational methods related to the delivery of EMS education and training

  • Must have a Thorough Knowledge & Skill of:

  • modern emergency medical care methods

  • company rules and regulations

  • company policy and procedure manual

  • Skill in the operation of a variety of billing and patient care functions

  • Must have the ability to:

  • successfully perform assigned job duties and responsibilities in accordance with established procedures, performance standards, and applicable deadlines

  • exercise sound judgment and manage assigned responsibilities effectively, prioritizing tasks and seeking guidance when appropriate

  • research and effectively recommend new techniques and training to enhance the process goals

  • ability to travel periodic to EMS stations, dispatch centers, and other field or operational locations as needed to complete in-person observation requirements


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Communicate information accurately and effectively with coworkers, supervisors, field personnel, and other stakeholders using appropriate communication methods.

  • Use computer systems and other technology necessary to perform essential job functions, consistent with applicable workplace policies.

  • Manual dexterity and ability to do repetitive keyboard/phone work

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time as described above



  • Perform the physical activities necessary to carry out assigned field and operational duties, including accessing and observing work environments and equipment, with reasonable accommodation as applicable

  • Ability to ride along in an EMS unit during response and transport, including entering and exiting the vehicle at scenes, and to remain on scene alongside crews for the duration of a call



  • Work in standard office conditions and around standard office equipment

  • Occasionally lift, carry, move, or handle materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, when necessary, to perform essential job functions.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • GED or High School Graduate

  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and communicate job-related information in English, verbally and in writing, as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position

  • Proficiency with computers and use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) as well as data entry, web browsing and other methods of written and electronic communications

  • TDSH EMS Licensed/Certified Paramedic with three (3) years of experience

  • No action or pending action taken against TDH EMS license or other certifications/professional licenses in the previous three (3) years.

  • Must successfully complete the NAEMSP Year-long Quality & Safety Course, provided by Allegiance Mobile Health, within eighteen (18) months of employment

  • Possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license

  • Maintain insurability with the company's vehicle insurance carrier
