Job summary

Position: Quality Assurance Manager


Location: Corporate Office - San Antonio, TX 78219


Job Type: Full Time


Shift: Day


Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Manager will lead and motivate the Quality Assurance team in executing the Company’s quality management systems and requirements. You will perform and maintain critical quality systems (e.g., non‑conformances, corrective and preventative actions, investigations, training, and metrics) as they relate to the manufacture, analytical testing, and auditing of internal and external quality assurance related activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage the Quality Assurance Department in executing the Company’s quality management systems and requirements.

  • Assist with receiving inspections by performing visual, dimensioning, and functional audits of materials, and documenting as required.

  • If requested, ensure in-process and finished product non‑compliance issues are evaluated for root‑cause, well documented, communicated to proper people/departments, and followed through to successful resolution.

  • Maintain and ensure company quality standards and KPIs.

  • Actively participate in Production and Operational meetings with the manufacturing team.

  • Instruct and guide quality team to execute daily quality requirements, and throughout shift monitor progress and resolve issues as they arise to ensure high level performance.

  • Ensure measurement equipment is maintained by following operating, cleaning, and calibrating instructions, to include being responsible for scheduling vendor repair when needed.

  • Maintain reliability of new product development processes.

  • Ensure processing of 1st article samples (FAS), which include performing inspection, audit reports, identifying non‑conforming features per design data specifications, and final FAS disposition.

  • Ensure material returned from the field (Returned Material Authorization or RMA) are processed properly, to include confirming reasons for returns, performing root cause analyses on failures, effectively communicating inspection results, and documenting as required.

  • Document material non‑conformances and lead material resolution/disposition process.

  • Ensure Corrective Action Request (CAR) and vendor returns are performed.

  • Perform inspections on in-process and finished products to confirm compliant assembly, compliant function, and that they meet visual requirements.

  • Ensure in-process and finished product non‑compliance issues are evaluated for root‑cause, well documented, communicated to proper people/departments, and followed through to successful resolution.

  • Engage in regulatory and/or third‑party audits and inspections, actively participating in the process and providing necessary assistance. Additionally, contribute to formulating and implementing corrective actions in response to audit findings.

  • Perform team member performance management tasks to include reviewing, adjusting, and approving payroll; reviewing and deciding upon time‑off requests; team training and development; performing formal performance evaluations; executing discipline as needed; and identifying and developing a pipeline for potential advancement.

  • Maintain documentation and operational metrics with relevant data to ensure department measures effectively reflect performance and progress to attain goals and objectives.

  • Lead QA Department engagement in all regulatory and/or third‑party audits and inspections while contributing to formulating and implementing corrective actions in response to audit findings.


Qualifications


  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and data entry systems.

  • Able to effectively manage others and drive outcomes.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

  • Skilled at using measurement equipment with appropriate documentation, to include but not limited to, calipers, pin gauges, spectrophotometers, CMM’s, and go/no‑go gauges.

  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.


Required Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or related field attending an accredited college.

  • 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing and quality assurance.


Preferred Qualifications


  • 5+ years of progressive quality management experience.

  • Knowledge of calibration and ability to read engineering drawings.

  • Experience with ISO 9000, 140001 etc. implementation.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma).
