The role focuses on maintaining ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 compliance, deploying the QMS, driving internal audits, and coordinating corrective actions across Operations, Quality, and Maintenance. Occasional travel is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Quality Management Systems, ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949.
  • Minimum five years of experience in manufacturing.
  • Minimum two years of experience with AIAG IATF Core Tools.
  • Minimum one year of experience internal Quality Systems auditing.
  • Strong Technical Writing, Communication and Organizational Skills.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Quality Management System policies and procedures including Core Tools and electronic systems.
  • Deploy QMS to support ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 compliance and Customer Specific Requirements.
  • Participate in and drive an internal audit program.
  • Manage corrective action, continual improvement, change point management and management review processes.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Quality, Maintenance and other departments to ensure training and effective corrective actions.

Job description

United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Quality Systems Engineer in our Quality Management System/Corporate Quality Assurance organization.

This role oversees and improves the Quality Management System to keep business operations compliant with customer and industry standards. This position will be based at our Granite City, IL location with additional responsibility for the coating line at the Fairfield, AL location. The position will involve occasional travel.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Understanding of the Quality Management System policies and procedures including Core Tools, the electronic systems and overall information flow that supports the system
  • Responsible for successful deployment of Quality Management System to support compliance to ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 as well as Customer Specific Requirements
  • Participate and drive an internal audit program
  • Manage relevant concepts including corrective action, continual improvement, change point management & management review processes
  • Coordinate with Operations, Quality, Maintenance and other departments to ensure training competencies, implement corrective/preventive actions and develop effective practices and procedures
  • Support Customer Technical Service and Sales in maintaining their pertinent pieces of the Quality Management System

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience Quality Management Systems, including ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949
  • Minimum five years of experience in manufacturing
  • Minimum two years of experience with AIAG IATF Core Tools
  • Minimum one year of experience internal Quality Systems auditing
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
  • Base salary range $75,000 - $90,000.This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
