Job summary

NANO Nuclear Energy in Oak Brook, Illinois, is seeking a detail-focused Quality Assurance Engineer to help develop and implement our QA program as we approach initial Kronos MMR construction.

Reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance, you will perform audits, support supplier qualification, create quality plans, and mentor staff while ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and health requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; related experience may substitute.
• 5 years QA/QC experience, 2 years nuclear QA in a DOE/NRC or similar environment.
• Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, ASME III, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3.
• Experience/certification in non-destructive examination (UT, PT, RT).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Thrives in a fast-paced research environment with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer to assist in the development and implementation of the Nano Nuclear Energy quality assurance program as we move toward initial construction of our Kronos MMR.

This position is located at our facility in Oak Brook, Illinois, reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance. You'll work independently with limited supervision, applying your knowledge to projects and processes. Responsibilities

• Quality oversight to ensure work is performed in strict accordance with requirements of the quality assurance program.
• Supports supplier qualification and verification activities through performance of audits and surveillance activities.
• Assists technical staff with the creation of quality plans and acceptance criteria lists, and inspection plans.
• Promote Continuous Improvement and the timely reporting of all conditions that affect Quality.
• Collaborate with the project team to implement quality improvements and perform causal analysis investigations on project-related issues.
• Lead and mentor personnel to ensure the correct behaviors are developed and reinforced.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health program requirements.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• 5 years of experience in QA/QC, with 2 years nuclear quality experience in a Department of Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), or similar environment.
• Knowledge of Quality standards such as ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, ASME III, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3.
• Previous experience/certification in non-destructive examination; UT, PT, RT.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate critical thinking.
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• NQA-1 Lead Auditor Certification.
• Nuclear Navy experience.
• Experience with Software QA in accordance with NQA-1-2022, Part II, Subpart 2.7.
• Experience with commercial grade dedication.
• Knowledge of CSA N286/N299 Standards.

Special Requirements

• This position requires access to safety related material and facilities. As such, passing a background check and a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program is required.
• This position may require access to radiologically controlled areas. Ability to meet all safety requirements is mandatory.
• Business travel to support supplier surveys and/or company audits.
