Job summary

Hawkins, Inc. is seeking a qualified quality assurance professional to support operations across development, production and warehousing.

You will verify process control, product quality, and safety, document inspections, monitor compliance with cGMP, and collaborate with multiple departments to address issues. Candidates should have a science background or equivalent experience, be detail oriented, and able to write clear reports from audits and test results.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in science preferred; related experience acceptable.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related industry.
  • Experience in Food or Dietary Supplement industry desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of CFRs and GMPs.
  • Detail oriented with ability to work independently.
  • MS Office proficiency.
  • CRM/ERP systems such as JDE knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Sound judgment and decision making.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend, review, approve, conduct, and/or complete documentation for key activities in support of operations and to assure compliance with company policy and cGMP.
  • Perform label verification prior to product release/transfer and address discrepancies with raw/finished materials (COA, specs, manufacturing, or expiration dates).
  • Handle activities including generating/approving COA’s and technical documents, product processing and warehousing, and maintaining database.
  • Inspect inbound raw materials by examining packaging for contamination or deterioration, reviewing specs, and releasing to inventory.
  • Alert and collaborate with departments to address safety and quality concerns affecting operations.
  • Follow internal hold release process and update ERP for non-conforming product.
  • Notify Quality, sales, service, or customers about specification/COA changes and obtain approvals.
  • Work with internal systems and vendors for customer technical requests.
  • Assist with development of SOPs, work instructions and other documents.
  • Review/approve quality documents for outbound shipments.
  • Maintain records accurately.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Job description

Hawkins, Inc. is a formulator, manufacturer, blender, distributer, and sales agent for thousands of industrial chemicals and reagent grade laboratory chemicals sold to municipalities and businesses throughout the Central United States. Thousands across a variety of industries have depended on Hawkins for the chemical products they need since 1938.

Provides support to and oversight of operations to verify process control, product quality, product safety, and safe work practices through all stages of operations, packaging, labeling and storage. Completes specific quality-related duties associated with operation processes including inspection, monitoring, verification, recordkeeping, and approval. Works with personnel from other departments as needed to identify and resolve quality or operation issues. Monitors operations and personnel for compliance with company policy and procedure, cGMP, safety and other requirements. Personally, complies with all company policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform label verification prior to product release/transfer and take appropriate action for any discrepancies with the raw and/or finished materials (i.e., missing COA, specification discrepancies, missing manufacturing, or expiration dates, etc.)
  • Handle key activities including generating and/or approving COA’s and technical documents, product processing and/or warehousing, and maintaining database.
  • Inspect all inbound raw materials by examining immediate packaging for signs of contamination or deterioration, overall quality of raw materials, reviewing specifications, and releasing raw material to inventory.
  • Alert and work along with various departments to address any safety and/or quality concerns impacting operations.
  • Follow internal hold release process and update ERP systems for any non-conforming product.
  • Notify representatives from Quality Department, sales, customer service, or customers for changes to the specification, COA, quality-related documents. Obtain approval of changes as appropriate.
  • Work with internal systems and vendors directly for any incoming customer technical requests including customer questionnaire
  • Assist with development of programs and writing standard operating procedures, work instructions and other procedural documents.
  • Review and approve quality documents for any outbound product shipments.
  • Maintain required records in an accurate, legible and complete manner.
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties, as needed.
ABOUT YOU
  • BS/BA in a Science background preferred but not required; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related industry.
  • Previous work experience in a Food or Dietary Supplement Industry is highly desirable.
  • Industry knowledge preferred, with basic knowledge of CFRs and GMPs.
  • Detail oriented. Ability to work independently and change focus to meet changing demands.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of CRM and ERP Systems such as JDE preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
