Job summary

The Waters Huntingburg is hiring a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) to administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role requires carrying out duties in accordance with federal/state regulations and company policies.

Essential duties include administering oral and PRN medications, documenting on the MAR chart, monitoring residents’ vital signs, and reporting any concerns to the nurse on duty.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have current, unencumbered state QMA license.

Responsibilities

• Administers oral, PRN and inhaled medications under supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Documents medications administered on MAR chart and reports to nurse on duty.
• Monitors residents and reports any adverse reactions or concerns to the nurse.
• Assists with non-invasive treatments and basic procedures as directed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) will administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Oral medications, including scheduled medications

• PRN medications, only after authorization of nurse, then nurse will assess and document effectiveness

• Inhalers

• Nebulizer treatments, only if nurse completes lung assessment before and after and documents findings

• Topical and rectal ointments

• Nasal sprays and drops

• Eye ointments and drop

• Ear ointments and drops

• Non-invasive treatments

• Observes residents for drug reactions and reports any concerns to the nurse immediately

• Monitors residents vital signs

• Calculates medication dosages and stocks the medication cart

• Documents what medications were given for the day on the medication administrator record (MAR) chart

• Reports to the nurse on duty general and specific information pertaining to the response of the residents to their medications or treatments and any other pertinent or appropriate information.

• Reports to the nurse on duty for instructions before administering any PRN medication

QMA EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have current, unencumbered state QMA license and must be able to provide documentation.
